“I never laid a hand on anybody that didn't deserve it.”
Matthew studied him for a moment, then glanced over his shoulder at the closed door.Â
This man was a stranger, but seemed sincere. There was no reason to think he might do Holly any harm while he ran a few quick errands. He hated the thought of leaving her alone now, but Matthew wanted -- and needed -- to stock up on supplies.
“Good friend of mine’s in a bad way. She’s in there restin’. I got some things I need to go do,” he paused, expression softening, “I’d appreciate if you saw that no one tries to go in there til I get back. I don’t want her disturbed unless the damn bar’s on fire. I’ll pay you some for the trouble when I get back.”
