14+16: A Quick Visit
16 stepped out of her TARDIS, twirling her new sonic screwdriver between her fingers. She had parked a block away from an old friend's house.
She had considered landing in the backyard but figured the friend wouldn't like it all that much. According to Mel, the friend was rather fond of their garden.
As she walked she kept giggling to herself about how surprised the friend was going to be. Oh yes, this was going to be fantastic fun.
She walked up the pathway toward the blue door, barely able to contain her excitement. She peered inside the window for a brief and saw that their friend was home. Stifling her boutique of giggles she knocked on the door.
"I'll get it," a voice called from inside.
*Perfect, he's the one answering,* she thought, listening to his footstep as she neared the door.
She quickly pocketed her sonic and stood there as casually as she could manage. The door swung open and there her friend stood, mouth agape.
"Rose?" The friend asked, trying to remember how to move his mouth.
"Hello Doctor," the new Doctor greeted. "May I come in?"
"S-sure," the younger Doctor replied moving out of the way for her to enter. As she stepped in, he studied her, running all the variables through his mind. "How are you here? Are the portals open again?"
She shook her head. "No. No portals. I was just in the TARDIS a few moments ago. Now I'm here.
He gave her a skeptical look. "Did the other Doctor have something to do with this? Because if so, something must be happening and he might need help."
She tilted her head from side to side. "He did have something to do with me being here, but I wouldn't worry. Everything is fine now, except," she looked down at her fingers. "I don't quite like the hands. The hands are very different." She looked back up at the younger Doctor, giving him a knowing smile.
It took a few seconds, but as realization hit and his mouth fell open again. "Oh. OH. OOOHHH. You're--" he pointed to himself then back at her.
She laughed and pulled out her sonic screwdriver. "Yeah."
The 14th iteration of the Doctor started pacing and fidgeting. "B-but how? What happened? You.. we... you look like Rose Tyler? What does this mean? Why?"
She put the screwdriver away and shrugged. "I don't know. I mean I know why I regenerated, Time Vortex and all that. One minute I was a beautiful black man, the next I had this face. A face from the past. This keeps happening. First with our 12th iteration, then again with you and now me. The universe is telling us something. And I need to figure it out before we look like the Master."
He stopped pacing. "What can I do? I can hop in my TARDIS, and we could--"
"No," she cut him off. "Your life is here. You've earned this, so relax. I will figure this out. If I do need you, I know where to find you. So stay put for now and enjoy civilian life."
The younger Doctor started fidgeting again. He really wanted to help, but knew she was right. He also knew that Donna would give him an earful if went off galavanting with the new Doctor to solve what was probably their biggest mystery yet.
"You're right," He seceded. "If you get stuck or anything, let me know, okay? I'm a phone call away."
She walked back toward the door. "I will."
