Discomfort is the best word he can think of to describe how he feels. Their rooms at the Elfsong are a mess after his siblings had shown up to try and bring him back to the palace-- to him-- and he makes at best a feeble attempt to clean up some of the destruction before Karlach tells him to just go get some rest and the rest of them can handle it. For once, he doesn't fight it. He doesn't try to put on a brave face, just pads quietly back to the little corner of their suite he shares with Narcelia and curls up on their bed.

He jumps when he feels the bed dip as she sits, and a rush of shame moves through him before he sits up too. He wants to take her hand, but finds himself pulling his legs up to his chest and wrapping his arms around himself.

WONDER  WOMAN  IS,      IN  FACT,      one  of  the  most  powerful  beings  in  the  dc  universe,     i  personally  believe.         in     SENSATION  COMICS  #1,     she  proves  this.     she  is  called  by  oracle  to  deal  with  batman’s  rogues     (     after  barbara  deems  other  heroes  to  be     TOO  NOBLE   /   TOO  KIND  -  HEARTED   /     TOO  COSMIC.       )         she  calls  diana  because  she  is  referred  to  as  a  strict  disciplinarian     :      someone  who  will  nip  these  problems  in  the  bud,   no  problem,     no  questions  asked.       in  fact,     the  mere  gall  of  barbara  to  dismiss  other  heroes,   superman    +    the  flash  being  two  of  them,     shows  how  much  faith  she  has  in  diana.     i  feel  like  barbara’s  dismissal  of  other  heroes  displays  some  qualities  that  diana  possesses  that  the  others  may  lack     :      

A. SHE IS NOT EXTREMELY OUT - OF - TOUCH WITH THE PEOPLE OF THIS WORLD. SHE IS NOT ‘ TOO COSMIC ‘ AS ONE WOULD MAKE HER SEEM TO BE. SHE FITS WITH THIS PATRIARCH’S WORLD, SHE IS NOT ALIEN, SHE IS NOT SO DIFFERENT FROM ORDINARY HUMANS.

B. HER HEART IS KIND, BUT SHE IS NOT OVERRUN BY THAT KINDNESS THAT SHE CANNOT PERFORM WELL. SHE IS KIND, BUT THERE IS A STRICTNESS TO HER THAT PROVES ITSELF MORE USEFUL WHEN IT IS. AND SHE IS NO AFRAID TO SHOW SUCH STRICTNESS WHEN IT IS NECESSARY.

C. HER NOBLENESS, SAME AS HER KINDNESS, DOES NOT OVERRUN HER ENTIRE BEING. SHE IS NOT ‘TOO MUCH’ OF ANYTHING, BUT JUST ENOUGH, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO DEALING WITH BATMAN’S ROGUES.

barbara  also  tells  diana  to  use  gotham  solutions,     to  which  she  replies:

this  exchange,   i  think,     displays  a  part  of  diana  not  often  seen  before.     she  is  well   -   versed  in  what  one  might  call  strictly  batman   -   related  solutions,     because  she  claims  that  her  themysciran  upbringing  has  rooted  her  in  this.     the  amazonian  ways  are  deeply  connected   /   similar  to  the  ways  of  batman     :     rooted  in  justice,     rooted  in  a  quick  resolve,     rooted  in  getting  things  done  efficiently.

diana  further  goes  on  to  claim     ‘     I  DON’T  UNDERSTAND  WHAT  THE  FUSS  IS  ABOUT     .   .   .     I’LL  SET  YOUR  HOUSE  IN  ORDER  BRUCE,     AND  I  WON’T  EVEN  NEED  A  CAR.     ‘     here,    we  see  her  confidence.     her  unimpressed  attitude  when  it  comes  to  batman’s  rogues.     she  is  used  to  threats  far  greater  than  what  batman  deals  with,     far  bigger,     that  it’s  astounding  to  her     ––     almost  comical     ––     that  batman  has  not  finished  his  enemies  off,     or  at  least  put  them  away  for  good.

the  battle  follows  into       SENSATION  COMICS   #2,         where  diana  proceeds  to  believe  herself  to  be  over   -   confident  when  against  poison  ivy.     here,     she  contends  that  bruce  may,     in  fact,     have  formidable  enemies.         here   is  where  one  learns  of  diana’s  weakness     :     the  safety  of  others.

also,     here,     we  learn  the  various  meanings  of  the  word     WONDER     when  it  comes  to  diana  prince.       she  questions  how  batman  stays  human  while  his  rogues  are  willing  to   murder  innocent  people.     she  feels  wrath,     anger,     and  yearns  for  her  own  type  of  justice.         she  contrasts  herself  with  batman     :   

THE  EVER   -   LASTING  NIGHT     /     THE  ALL   -   SEEING  SUN.

“     THEY  FEAR  THE  MAN  IN  BLACK     .   .   .     BUT  THEY  DON’T  KNOW,     THE  GODS  AND  MONSTERS  I  HAVE  PUT  TO  ETERNAL  REST.    IF  I  CHOSE  MONSTERS,     THE  BAT  WOULD  SEEM  A  BLESSED  REPRIEVE.     AND  BEFORE  THEY’VE  EXPIRED?       I  WOULD  FILL  THEM  WITH  WONDER.     ”

diana  prince,    in  this  type  of  wonder,     is  a  terrifying  being.     in  this  sense,     she  embraces  the  mantle  of  wonder  woman.     she  is  unstoppable,    all   -   powerful,     wonderous  in  a  way  that  strikes  terror  and  fear  into  those  who  fight  against  her.     she  has  seen  worse   than  the  joker,    she  has  dealt  with  bigger  threats  than  the  penguin,   the  riddler,   anyone  batman  goes  up  against  on  a  daily  basis,    and  she  knows  that.         but  the  largest  part  of  this  comic,   is  her  choice  to     REMAIN  DIANA.         she  does  not  accommodate  to  the  darkness  that  infects  gotham,     but  rather  forces  it  to  accommodate  to  her.        she  forces  his  rogues  to  come  into  terms  with  their  own  fear    ––    something  she  points  out  is  their  primary  weapon,    something  they  feed  off  of  but  never  face  themselves.    (   x,   x    )         they  fear  the  truth,     diana’s  own  primary  weapon,     the  very  thing  that  makes  diana  who  she  is.     and  her  using  that,   and  fighting  against  her  urge  to  instill  fear  rather  than  her  own  tactics  is  what  makes  her  so  amazing.
