Finally got around to visiting Los Tacos No. 1′s Chelsea Market location the other day. I had heard about this place and it’s queso taco, or how they offered a taco made out of cheese. To clarify these are soft shell tacos that you can get made out of cheese. The two other types are the regular corn or flour tortilla tacos & tostadas, but you can also get quesadillas and mulas. To get the queso taco, you just need to let the cashier known that you’ want a cheese taco beforehand which they’ll indicate on your receipt, and it’ll be clear when you move down the line to hand the workers your order.
I decided to get the queso pollo asado (chicken) taco and a regular flour tortilla adobada (pork) taco, both that were open-faced. And I have to say that the hype is real for the queso taco. Though, admittedly if you’re going to get more than one taco, you should probably get one queso taco and the other one as either a corn or flour tortilla taco, since the queso taco gets a it salty after awhile and I think having both tacos with the queso shell would have been a bit too much. The queso taco with the pollo asado tasted just right and was super yummy.
The prices really aren’t that bad either and actually pretty affordable in my opinion, with a single, open-faced taco ranging from $3.25 - $3.75 each, while the quesadillas range from $4.25 - $5.25 each. In you’re ever in the Chelsea area and in the mood for some tacos, this would definitely be my no. 1 recommendation at the moment.
