There’s very little that’s more satisfying than working on knitting while wearing something one has also knit. I’m currently working on one of my slow fashion wardrobe staples- a sturdy, masculine cardigan. I chose Slade from @brooklyntweed in Shelter Nest. I had intended to cast on over the summer, but I made the shawl I’m wearing instead (slow IS ok). The shawl is my own design, made with Elemental Affects Cormo. I feel good about choosing U.S. wool for my projects, and I’m trying to be conscious of the sustainability of my fiber consumption. I’ve been thinking a lot this week - the first of @slowfashionoctober -about the difference between what I think I should wear, or want to wear, and what I do wear. This is all tangled up with gender. I spent a lot of years trying to like feminine clothing. And when I came out as transmasc I felt a huge pressure to like tailored clothing and suits and such. There’s a time and a place for that, but really I’m a cozy, casual person and I want to fill my closet with those kinds of garments. Hopefully, this cardigan will be one. . . . #knitting #americanwool #knittersofinstagram #queerswhoknit #slowfashionoctober #slowfashion #slowfashionwardrobe https://www.instagram.com/p/BoiiUGKHQ3m/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=i07q7rh74mpw
