This record is very special to me. In fact, I remember the first time I heard this recording - My head exploded. I think that happens a lot when I first hear the original version of a song that's well-known by someone else. BTW - this is STILL happening to me after all these decades of music research & I LOVE it! . It SHOULDN'T have been a surprise to me that Elvis covered this song. I already knew at the time I was introduced to this record that most of Elvis's early records were covers of existing R&B, Blues, & Country hits. What I hadn't realized is that he was still doing covers in the early 60s. I had just assumed songs were being written specifically for him at that point. . I'm not gonna lie, I still love the Elvis version of this tune, but it's #TheClovers version that helped to inspire me to become a dance DJ. . Sugar Town turns 10 this year! Kinda crazy to think it's been around for a decade! I don't know if there will be an opportunity to celebrate that monumental anniversary, but I'm still feeling like walking down memory lane. 2013's The Garden of Gaydreams (adapted from the Lifesavers Garden of Daydreams ad) was one of my all time favorite Sugar Town themes. . And speaking of Lifesavers, we've been thrown one or two, so let's do what we can to save ourselves! . THIS YEAR my GAYDREAM is that we're all fully vaccinated by the end of summer so we can all dance together in person to celebrate! I also gaydream about people following safety guidelines (masking & distancing) so that we don't spread around the more highly contagious and dangerous variants. MASK UP to protect your neighbors! .
