Robb shifted as the bed tipped slightly. He had tried to stay awake until she arrived home, as he always did during her night shifts, but the baby had kept him busy all day, and when he’d put her down for a nap and laid down “just for a minute to catch his breath” he’d fallen asleep just as she had. They had worked out a suitable schedule for their daughter–she went to work when he got home so someone was always with the baby, and on the weekends they both stayed home–but as much as he loved the time with his daughter, it was difficult not to see his wife for so much of the week. Not to mention, neither of them were sleeping much at all.

“She’s my wife,” he’d said, said it in passing, said it like it didn’t matter, like it wouldn’t sting, and yet the second it left his lips, Robb knew it was a mistake. She had asked him why he had not been able to visit her over the last week, why he had been spending so much time with Roslin Frey instead, and while the answer was true--that the woman was his wife, the woman he was promised to, and that appearances must be kept up and a child made--the words now lingered in the air before them, revealing the painful truth: that Talisa was not his wife. That no matter how much she meant to him, no matter how much he loved her, she never would be. That truthfully, she had no place by his side, not any that the world would allow her.

Sitting inside the old dusty room, her knees pulled up to her chest as she sat on the hardened mattress, she wondered when this would all be worth it. Things were taking so long to come back together and every step forward only seemed to bring them two steps back. All she had left anymore was her son, and he had to her locked up as a prisoner. 

Staring towards the window, she allowed the tears to fall freely. The only good thing about being a prisoner was that you had to be alone. It was one of the first times that she could fall apart without having to worry. It was the first time that she could mourn Ned. It was the first time she could grieve for her sons lost to Theon in Winterfell. 

There was however, an unexpected visitor. The door opened and she instantly began wiping at her face. Her eyes were still red and puffy as she turned and looked over her shoulder.

Robb had been so absorbed in his work–as always–that he did not hear her come in, but the flower dropping down where his plans were meant to be caught his attention, and Robb looked up, a wide grin spreading over his face as his eyes fell upon his smiling wife. “I’ll be anything in the world you want me to be,” he said, standing up and taking her face in his hands. He kissed her again and again, returning every kiss she gave him with two of his own. Smiling, he pressed his forehead against hers and whispered, “I love you.”
