Dad!Roger being brought to his kids Career Day at school
âTomorrowâs career day at schoolâ your son Elliot says while you are all having dinner together
You nod remembering that he already asked you to go some days ago
âDadâs not working tomorrow, he could come with youâ you suggestÂ
âYes, Iâd love to, weâll have a good timeâRoger never had the chance to do it because of tours or the studio and he would actually love to be part of it
âI donât knowâ Elliot mumbles while playing with his fork and looking down at his own plate âI already asked it to you momâ
âI know, but I get to do it every year. And I donât mind if dad will come tomorrow, it will be funâ
âI-I donât think thatâs a good ideaâÂ
Elliot keeps looking at his plate and you can see that Rogerâs smile drops
âWhy donât you guys go play to the living room while me and dad wash the dishes?â you suggest once dinnerâs over
After that the kids run to the other room you get up and sit on Rogerâs lap
âDo you think heâs embarrassed about me?â He askes, his tone really low and sad
âNo love, it absolutely isnât because of thatâ you try to reassure him as you lay your hands on the sides of his neck âhe loves you and thinks youâre the coolest dad.â
âThen why he doesnât want me there tomorrow?
âIâll try to understand it, okay?â And you kiss your husband tenderly hoping to comfort him
Once youâve tucked your son in you sit on his bed and caressed softly his hairÂ
âSweetheart, whatâs wrong?âÂ
âI-â âItâs that kids always think bad about me being dadâs son.â
âWhat do you mean?â you frown looking down at him
âThey say that I have good notes only because my dad is Roger Taylor and- and they say that their parents told them the same thing.â
You had to hold back the anger that was forming inside you
You knew about those stupid parents talking bad about your son and favouritisms that he may have because of who his father is.
Bullshit, from the first moment you made it clear that no matter who his father is, Elliotâs got to make it in his own way.
âScrew themâ you told him âTheyâre just jealous that their father isnât a rockstar.â
A big smile forms on your sonâs lips âTheyâre jealous that my dad is really coolâ
âExactlyâ you chuckled âIf you are proud about your dad then this is the most important thing. It doesnât matter what other people think.â
âCan you tell dad that Iâm sorry and that I want him to come with me tomorrow?âÂ
You smile lifting your gaze and see Roger laying against the doorframeÂ
âWhy donât you tell him?âÂ
The next day Elliot walks in class holding Rogerâs hand and smiling up at his father.
When itâs his turn he stands up and says proudly. âThis is my father Roger and heâs a drummer, heâs a rockstar.â
Roger canât help but chuckle looking at his son and happily starts to talk about his job.
