The Quartertones, "Hands Up", Hidden In Plain Sight (URBNET Records, 2005)
SE BAILA ASÍ:
Quarter tones made easy.
The easiest way into microtonal music making is through quarter tones. For one thing, all your favorite 12 tone tricks still work. (Electronic music makers need read no further) For another, you don't need any special instruments, though it can make things easier. If your instrument is locked in fixed pitch, the cumbersome method you're stuck with is to have two instruments tuned a quarter tone apart. It's can be a costly solution, but even my toy Casio left over from childhood can support global retuning by +/-50 cents. Guitars and basses are semi-fixed so they have it easier. Tune one or more strings a quartertone out. Fretless strings, vocalists, and bassoonists simply need to know where the new notes lay. Quartertone tuners are obscure objects, but if you have a spare chromatic tuner, set one so that A=453 instead of the usual 440. This will tell you when a note is a quartertone sharp. The other will act as control and make sure your intonation doesn't drift as your ears adjust. Cool intervals: the wide second ( whole tone +quarter) neutral or middle thirds and seconds (between major and minor) wide major sixth(M6+quarter) and wide fourth ( P4+quarter).
