Four Types of Variables 1. Categorical: Variables that can take on one of a limited, and usually fixed, number of possible values. 2. Quantitative: Variables that are measured on a numeric or quantitative scale. Ordinal, interval and ratio scales are quantitative (e.g., a country's population). 3. Discrete: Variables that can only take on a finite number of values are called "discrete variables." All qualitative variables are discrete. 4. Continuous: Variables that have an infinite number of possible values. In other words, any value is possible for the variable. Source: Does anyone know who created this table?
