OKAY so the comet in CoK - I LOVE this because in another fantasy novel it would be a legit “augury” but in asoiaf it’s noticed in the first POV chapter of each character, and all of them (or the social groups they belong to) assign a different meaning to it - for Dany it’s a sign of DRAGONS and guiding her to travel in a particular direction; the folk at the red keep see it as prophesying Joffrey’s successful reign (or at least they say that b/c Joffrey isn’t exactly lenient with anyone disputing his ascendancy); for Melisandre and the Stannis crowd, it’s a symbol of his messianic ascent or w/e; &c. &c.
