Vintage postcard of the historic One-Room Jailhouse of Straub County, Maryland, which for 52 years held but one prisoner - Martin Milius Travette, a quarrelous watchmaker’s assistant.
Using tiny watchmaker’s tools, Travette painstakingly and meticulously murdered Jeebo the Ecclesiastic Clown (of the Talbot Bros. Interfaith Circus), because he smiled at him funny, not realizing that Jeebo’s face was paralyzed and incapable of grinning, and that the sassy smile he wore had to be painted on every morning.
NOTE: The nattily dressed cowboy shooting the uniformed WW2-era British army radio operator has nothing to do with the celebrated Straub County Jailhouse, and is wonderfully at odds with the focus of the postcard.
- The Gruenwald Photo-Omnibus & Pokémon Go Free Zone is interested in acquiring this rare unbleached muslin postcard, and would appreciate anyone with it in their possession to please contact this blog.
