triplicities and quadruplicities
The signs of the zodiac are grouped in certain geometric arrangements: triplicities and quadruplicities. Triplicities deal with the temperament; quadruplicities deal with basic activity.
There are four triplicities, which correspond to the four elements:
fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)
air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)

Aquarius displays intellectualism with its intuitive grasp of universal ideals and concern for the well-being of humanity.
Earth signs are negative, stable, and hardworking; they seek to display practicality in some way. Taurus displays practicality by how they accumulate and manage money and other material resources. Virgo displays practicality through their intelligence and proper maintenance of the most valuable material possession, the physical body. Capricorn displays practicality through leadership and are concerned with the ideas upon which humanity is built.
Water signs are negative, reactive, and sensitive; they seek to display emotion in some way. Cancer displays emotions when it comes to its home and its family. Scorpio displays emotions when it comes to sex, death and the deeper mysteries of life. Pisces displays emotions when it comes to its mystical connection to the infinite, its emotions are often subconsciously displayed.
Relationships
In the synastry between two people with a predominance of fire signs, they would both react to each other with energy, ardour, enthusiasm, and passion. Problems occur because both individuals have unhinged tempers and they can quickly burn themselves out with each other. On the positive side, they can spur each other onto new ventures and help each other assume leadership roles.
