i don't want to detract from this post by making it about gay ships, but you do see an echo of this 'anti hookup culture' attitude in some people's reaction to fanfic. i see commenters who will accept QPR's only if the two characters are 'endgame' or whatever and people get really weird about polyamorous fics. not as serious as the og point (hence the separate post) but still something i think about when i'm looking at the comments of people's fics
