Before I was in a qpr I always saw people saying that it's literally just friendship and that the term was stupid and now I'm in one and everyone assumes we're dating so which one is it
QPRs are NOT romance-lite or a substitute for romance, but holy shit it's so awesome that I can have everything I wanted from a romantic relationship WITHOUT all the things I don't want. Fucking awesome
If there's anything I learned this year it's that sometimes you do end up meeting the right person and you're still aromantic and still asexual. Three cheers for queerplatonic relationships, I am still devoid of romantic and sexual attraction
My relationship is the opposite of "aromantic meets The Right Person and falls in love" my partner is alloromantic but loves me so much that he cannot fall in love with me and romance is basically irrelevant to him now. I met the right person and he's basically an honorary aromantic now

What I really love about being in a QPR is that there are genuinely no rules other than our own boundaries. There is no "we are in This type of relationship which means we have to do That" or "we aren't in That type of relationship so we can't do This". None of it is defined by any pre-established societal expectation of what our relationship should look like so it's all up to what we want out of it and how we feel towards each other.
QPRs really are the non-binary of relationships, not because they are the third category besides the already established two categories, but because they are something other than those two, they aren't defined by the rules created for those two, they can be anything, there are no rules for them, because they exist outside of the rules. And maybe the two concrete categories could learn from them, because if they can look like anything, then maybe the categories don't have to be as strict either.
"you shouldn't use qprs as an excuse to ship aro characters"
First of all, that character is not a real person having their boundaries crossed.
Second of all, I am a romance-repulsed aro person in a QPR that looks very, VERY similar to a romantic relationship. We kiss on the mouth. Historians would say we were close friends and they'd be correct. I cannot stress how with everything in my relationship that would make anyone question that, I am very much aromantic and very much romance-repulsed. His entire family probably thinks we're dating and in the almost four years we've known each other there has never been an inkling of romance between us no matter how hard our friends in high school insisted that we were in love. There was a cold, suffocating void within me that feels like it was never even there now that he's in my life and yet my love for him only serves to prove that I couldn't fall in love if I tried. I've pretty much accepted that we're going to be mistaken for a couple by anyone who spends any time with us.
Whatever "problematic" way of engaging with an aro character you can think of is a real life aro person who exists.
Toxic QPRs are an untapped goldmine when it comes to character dynamics. Staying together despite being horrible for each other because you really don't know if you can ever find somebody else who will love you like this. Think about it
