Qestir Communication
I have remarked in the past that giving the Qestir Face Masks as a visual indicator of them being the silent tribe was a silly decision. Since it restricts the amount of body language a Qestir can do in the traditional sense.
Though watching some of the initial Azim Steppe cutscenes with them and knowing more about how the world works since we met the Xaela of the Steppe has given me an idea. Since as a fully developed Tribe they do have to be able to communicate advanced ideas to one another. Otherwise their entire tribe would fall apart, and the game using parenthesized dialogue to indicate the speaking of their intent.
It's fairly safe to assume that the Qestir do not use sign language in my opinion as sign language is for all intents and purposes a way of speaking and communicating when verbal words wouldn't work. So I personally see it falling under their Words Are Lies motif.
However my idea is that the Qestir communicate via their Aether, or Dynamis. Since both can influence other beings in different manners. And the Echo lets us see the memories of Aether etched upon the world and on people's souls.(Not to mention lets us understand everyone's intentions when they speak essentially)
So I don't think it is far fetched at all that the Qestir learned how to communicate their intentions and ideas with their Aether and/or Dynamis. Like not in words, but utilizing body language they unconsciously communicate using them. Hence why people tend to understand what the Qestir mean unless they are a particular dense dunderhead that is close-minded to begin with.
It at least makes the masks less silly since they are utilizing Aether/Dynamis in their body language to communicate, and it doesn't fall under words are lies because they are communicating their actual intentions and emotions.
But that's just a thought I had after musing for a bit.
