signora holds onto you tightly, one hand gripping you by the back of your tattered shirt, and the other holding a razor sharp blade centimeters away from your neck. if you move even a muscle, it'll slice through you in an instant, sending blood spattering everywhere and killing you at once. "our bargain was only meant to be upheld if you maintained your side as well," the harbinger's coy voice echoes, an edge of steel hidden beneath her sly tone. "all you wanted was the gnosis, and i vowed i would hand it to the fatui after sorting out some personal matters. i've only just completed those issues now, so there was no need for you to kidnap them," the anemo archon has not a trace of joviality in his tone, and wind has begun to howl around him from his powerful emotions, tinged slightly with green as he subconsciously infuses it with anemo. signora laughs, a cold, malicious sound, "i needed some... insurance," she shakes you roughly, as if playing with a rag doll, causing venti's features to contort with worry.

"and what 'issues' would you have to deal with, little bard? maybe playing at being a god? or perhaps figuring out new ways to copy your dead friend?" signora doesn't pull her punches, even with words, and each question pierces venti like a knife. yet he doesn't give in, but instead clutches his bow so tightly his knuckles turn white, "let them go. unharmed. and then i'll give you whatever you want." the fatui harbinger gazes at her perfectly painted nails, stretching her fingers to view them better before turning back to venti, "if i set this miserable excuse for a human free and allow them to live without disturbance, you will drop your weapon, hand me the gnosis, and then i will murder you. the tsaritsa doesn't want any scum interfering in her plans."

"venti, don't do it!" you muster up all your energy to yell, wincing in fear as signora moves the blade even closer, threatening you to keep quiet or get stabbed. but you need venti to stay alive, and you couldn't care less about this stupid woman, "please, venti, don't do it. you're a god, i'm just a human. mondstadt needs you!" "i said shut your filthy mouth!" signora lifts her long leg and kicks you in the stomach, knocking the air out of your lungs and causing you to droop forward, falling silent. "y/n!" venti shouts with concern lacing his tone, turning his furious gaze towards signora, "i said not to hurt them!" stepping forward, he states, "release them. now. and have one of your fatui underlings escort them out, back to their home, where they will live out the rest of their days in peace. do that, and i'll play along with your demands." you shake your head violently at venti, begging him to notice and take back his words, but it's too late.

"consider it done," a wicked smile curves signora's lips as she drops you to the ground with as much care as she would have thrown out the trash. you attempt to scramble towards your boyfriend, praying to celestia that your muscles work well enough to move. "let me have a minute with them. please," venti requests, trying his best to make sure his voice doesn't crack. the harbinger waves a careless hand, "do as you please. as long as you don't try and break the contract." "you're aware i am the god of freedom, right? the god of contracts is of much greater height," venti grins, his usual smile returning to his face, even as his imminent death draws ever closer. "keep your rhymes to yourself, bard. i have no wish to hear it. now hurry up, the clock is ticking," she folds her arms and glares at him. "jeez, no need to be so mad. if you left, i'd honestly be really glad," venti scoffs under his breath before rushing to your side.

cupping your face gently, venti holds you with so much delicacy and kindness that you tear up, launching yourself into his arms. suddenly, it's like all the emotions you've been bottling up this entire time overcome you in one huge wave, and you start sobbing, "venti, please, please, please, don't do this. i want you to live!" "my windblume... don't you think i want the same for you?" he asks quietly, caressing your newly earned scars with the tips of his fingers. your next sentence catches in your throat, and you're too choked up to continue speaking, only able to grip onto his tunic as if you could make him stay with you forever if only you held him close. "i love you, so much more than i can ever express. with you, i'm at peace, and you've done so much more for me than i can for you. please live on for me," venti murmurs, so softly only you can hear it. "venti, wait, no-" your voice is breaking and you don't know how to stop the tears flowing down your cheeks and blurring your vision. "i love you, y/n," venti smiles, a tranquil smile, like he's already accepted his fate. and you, wanting to at least make his last moments memorable can do nothing but reply with damp eyes, "i love you too, venti."

the warm grin and affection for you gleaming in his eyes never leave his expression as he hands the gnosis to signora, who smiles arrogantly, filled with pride after accomplishing her mission. the same serene smile still graces venti's features as signora stabs a knife into his stomach, and you suppose it's a good thing he's gone from this world, because he's spared from hearing the anguished scream that breaks free from your lungs the next second as his corpse hits the floor.

childe, the 11th of the fatui harbingers, a man whose name is whispered reverently on the lips of the fatui members who respect him greatly, a man who is feared across teyvat for his bloodthirstiness and renowned for his eagerness to fight, is also the man standing in your kitchen and making you hot soup.

ajax grew up with many younger siblings, so he definitely has experience taking care of a sick person. since you're his s/o, he'll treat you with the utmost care, showing you the tender side of himself he hides from everyone else.

first off, childe will definitely going to scold you if you try to get out of bed, but not in an angry way? it's in a very concerned way, so he's hoping you can realise that and not be upset with him. something along the lines of - "ajax, i've got to go do my commissions." "no way! you're staying in bed, boyfriend's orders." "last i checked you aren't a doctor." "last i checked you're still sick, so go lie down." if you still refuse, he'll pout at you, "please? for me?" he knows the unstoppable power of his puppy eyes, and he also knows you get completely swayed whenever he uses them, so he tends to utilise the adorable expression to his advantage when he can. being a harbinger means that he treats everything like a battle and always knows how to get the upper hand - perks of the job?

if he wasn't a wanted criminal in literally every country in teyvat, childe would go get medicine for you from the nearest pharmacy, but unfortunately, he is. hence why he disguises himself in a huge overcoat and messy blonde wig to try and appear more normal - who's going to tell him it only makes him stand out more? either way, he manages to get the medicine for you, although he'll quickly brush it off if you ever ask why he has a wig lying around when you recover.

overall, if you ever fall sick, childe is an amazing nurse to have, as he actually knows how to cook, gets you the right medicine, and you'll be back on your feet in no time. once you're well though, expect a lot of cuddles from tartaglia, as he claims that he needs to make up for the few days he was deprived of your touch.

venti.

venti may be the (ex)-anemo archon, but he has absolutely no clue how on earth to nurse a sick person. that doesn't mean he isn't worried about you though! as soon as he realises you've fallen ill, he brings you to the cathedral, and begs barbara to heal you. the deaconess is slightly suspicious of venti after what he did to the holy lyre, but she can see the genuine concern in his blue-green eyes, plus it's her pleasure to help others, so of course barbara accepts his plea.

even though he isn't actively healing or nursing you, venti still stays by your side the entire time. in fact, venti stares suspiciously at literally every single thing that the nuns bring to help you, questioning them and ensuring it is of the highest possible quality, because he only wants the best for his windblume. he's also always buzzing around you, a bit like a bee, flitting from side to side to make sure you're alright. in fact, the only way barbara could get him to sit still and keep quiet was by threatening to kick him out because he was hindering your recovery.

since venti pretty much has nothing to do except drink, play songs at the plaza, and relax his days away, he spends all of his time with you. most of the time you're half-asleep, which according to barbara is normal because you need as much rest as you can get. however, venti worries that you'll get bored, and so he sings to you, strumming his lyre gently from his seat beside your bed. his mellifluous voice helps ease you into a deep sleep, with a small smile curving your face. when you recover, venti claims it was mostly his singing that cured you, and barbara only did a quarter of the work.

as soon as you're well enough, venti takes you back home, where he surprises you with a huge bouquet of windwheel asters and cecilias as a token of how much he missed you. he'll be stuck to your side like glue for the rest of the foreseeable future, whining dramatically every time you try to leave - there isn't much difference from his normal self, to be honest, so you don't mind either way.

basically venti tries his best to be as supportive and helpful as possible while you're ill, even if he does get in the healer's way most of the time and ends up getting scolded, it's worth it to see your joyous smile when you're healthy again.

xiao.

xiao is the only living yaksha left, and he has conquered horrific demons for millenia, but when it comes to mortal illnesses, he's at a loss for what to do. he does know you need to rest, so he carries you to his bedroom at wangshu inn and tucks you into bed. he even allows you to press a grateful kiss to his cheek, which quickly turn red after, claiming 'adepti aren't affected by sicknesses such as these.'

honestly, xiao is going to be the most terrified about you falling sick. he's always known mortals were weak in comparison to adepti, but this is the first time he's truly being faced with your evident mortality. sure, it's just a cold, but xiao is being hit with the reality that you could easily die from something like this, whereas he wouldn't even fall ill in the first place. and so from here on, he tries to be a lot more vocal and physical about his love for you, and though it's difficult, he really is trying his best to convey his emotions to you.

xiao dislikes liyue harbour, not because it's ugly or because it threatens to take away his job as the number one defender of liyue, but because of the crowds. it hurts his head to hear all their countless desires ringing out as he strolls through, and he feels as if he's only tainting their happiness by merely being there. but for you, xiao would walk through hell and back, so he sharpens his resolve, and after a quick consultation with verr goldet, heads off to bubu pharmacy. baizhu is amazed that there is a genuine adeptus standing at his entrance, but wraps up the medicine and demands the payment. however, baizhu is a very sly man, and he knows very well this adeptus has no clue what is going on, and hence baizhu charges an extremely exorbitant price for the medicines. but when xiao pays it without hesitation, walking off a second later, baizhu wonders if he should have asked for more.

back at wangshu inn, xiao will ensure you take your medicines and also request for food to be sent up to the room three times a day - since he has his own duties as a yaksha too, he can't cook for you, although some part of him secretly wishes he could. xiao does check in on you whenever he can though! you'll usually be sleeping when he pops into the room, but he'll adjust your blanket, change the cloth on your forehead, and try to make you as comfortable as possible.

it's safe to say xiao is overjoyed when you recover, though it's only obvious by the way he holds onto tighter and for longer than usual when he hugs you for a few days after your recovery. and he's basically the sweetest ever, so 10/10 recommend getting a personal xiao to be your nurse if you're sick.

zhongli.

zhongli, consultant of the wangsheng funeral parlour, and former geo archon is probably able to compete with childe for how well he takes care of you when you're sick. zhongli's renowned for being chock full of knowledge, and this goldmine of information stored in his head even extends to illnesses and their cures, luckily for you.

zhongli is a man who lives his life with order, so the first thing he'll do if you fall sick is request leave from master hu tao. she obviously permits him, she's literally the captain of the y/n x zhongli ship. next, he'll return home and make you lie down on the fluffy bed, stacking up pillows all around you while also opening the windows so you can have some crisp fresh air. after that, he'll manage to make some porridge for you and if you're so sick that you can't eat it yourself, zhongli willingly feeds you - he's just that much of a sweetheart.

aside from your illness, things would be totally perfect if it wasn't for your boyfriend's utter lack of mora. baizhu's prices are ridiculously high, but they do promise a speedy recovery, and that takes priority over the cost for zhongli. and that is how he finds himself at childe's doorstep, asking to borrow some of the famed currency. childe's pockets are deep, almost too deep, so he has no qualms about lending zhongli as much money as he needs. things work out then, as zhongli ends up with enough finances to purchase medicine, baizhu gets to make a profit, childe still has enough money to buy a planet, and you get to recover from your sickness! it's a win-win situation for everybody.

while you're resting, zhongli will usually sit beside you, reading his book and checking on you every few minutes. if you're awake but still needing to lie down, zhongli will oblige you and tell you stories of when he was an archon. you're the only person he trusts enough to share these tales and experiences with - you should consider yourself blessed, for even after all his millions of years of living, you shine like gold in his memories. if you're the playful type, this is your best opportunity to get zhongli to do whatever you want. he's always been wrapped around your little finger, but when you're ill? if you asked him to jump, he'd immediately ask 'how high?' he's completely head over heels for you.

so yes, overall, zhongli is also one of the best boys to have take care of you when you're sick, because he's very attentive to your needs, and with his wealth of information, you'll be on your feet again in no time.

this moment is so sweet and peaceful, you long for nothing more than to capture it in a snapshot with your kamera. venti's face is as adorable as ever, and you lean up to press your lips against his in a gentle butterfly kiss, soft and fleeting. a smile graces his delicate features, and his eyes sparkle with joy, for he's so, so, happy that he gets to spend time like this with you. he just chooses to ignore the tiny voice in the back of his mind reminding him that you're mortal, and instances like this are as ephemeral as your kiss from earlier.

"the stars themselves pale in comparison to you," he murmurs, gazing at you, and laughing when you dart your eyes away from the intensity of his piercing gaze as heat rushes to your face. quickly trying to deny the praise, you say, "that was by far, one of the sappiest things you have ever said." "ouch!" your boyfriend clutches his heart dramatically, falling backwards as if injured, "you wound me, love of my life." you pretend to shoot at him, using your hand as a gun, "good."

venti falls backward even further, "i... see the light... goodbye, cruel world!" you giggle and stand up, strolling over to him and offering your hand so he can get up. however, instead of accepting your help, venti pulls you down onto the soft grass with him! pulling you to his chest, he rests his chin on your head, and the two of you are quiet for a moment. then you break the silence, "about what you said earlier..." nuzzling your head into his neck to hide your shy expression, you continue, "i never said it wasn't adorable."

venti laughs, a sound filled with mirth easily carried away by the wind swirling around you two. "then," he hugs you even closer, "i suppose i shall have to do it more often."

honestly the first time venti found out you were a skilled musician too is because he was messing around and trying to teach you how to play the lyre. he had wrapped his arms around yours, apparently so he could 'guide your playing', but you both knew it was just an excuse for the playful bard to be close to you. confidently, he said 'for every note you play correctly, i'll give you a kiss!' before teaching you a quick song. when you played it back from memory without a hitch nor a single mistake, venti's eyes widened so much you thought they were going to pop out of his head, 'you can play music too?!?!' he was super shocked at first but also very impressed, and later he definitely winked at you and said 'time to collect your prize~' before excitedly kissing you all over your face. hes so CUTE AGHHH

since you can play music too, venti definitely invites you to perform with him in impromptu concerts all over mondstadt, and the citizens always enjoy them, because his melodious singing voice combined with your expert playing was like heaven for their ears. he plays the lyre too occasionally, and the two of you manage to harmonise perfectly, once again to the joy of the mondstadters. sometimes he makes you perform alone in the morning, and then he performs in the evening, just because you get double the tips from people passing by, which means more wine for him!

when venti's around you, he does show a different side of him - he feels comfortable enough around you to admit when he's tired. one of his favourite things to do is to lay in your lap under the huge tree in windrise while you play the lyre and hum along to the tune. it's just so peaceful for him, and it helps him doze off and get some much needed rest. the only issue is that when he wakes up he's more energised than ever, and that means his ability to make mischief is extremely heightened.

all in all venti's opinion of you shoots up even higher into the clouds - which he didn't think was possible - because as a bard himself, he understands how learning to play music or any instrument isn't easy in the slightest, but you committed to it and became so incredibly talented! it only makes him love you more because of your dedication, and he admires you greatly for it.
