people need to STOP writing simon as super religious due to his upbringing. throughout the entire movie a resistance to edens teachings are alluded to (the voice asking him if he believes in god to which he says “yeah let’s not get into that”; saying his brothers abandoned him in the wake of filament station; the stand-in for ava saying he wasn’t like the others; “everyone on eden’s just given up; etc) and when he clings to it for comfort it’s in material things and like. his mom. he didn’t choose this and he certainly doesn’t embrace it.

i just think it’s so much jucier. did he lose faith after taking the fall for filament station or before, maybe when his mom died, or just when he was dealing with the quiet rapture as a child in general? he still of course has a connection to eden—it’s all he’s ever known—so how does he grapple with that? could he form any proper connection with his brothers in arms with that level of dissonance? how much did he do that he didn’t believe in because he was forced to by his situation? muuuuuch to think about!
