Thank you for the tag @kessler-writes! The words are: silence, color, friend, and harsh.
Silence settled back between us as we sat still, and as if we were connected, I swore I could feel her mind churning with ideas. Like two cogs in a clock, we both were working toward the same goal, although we spun in different directions.
The first thing that caught my eye were my glow lamps; a small experiment I’d started, using different types of fuels to alter the colors of the flames, making a myriad of possibilities. I’d even started taking requests! In the past month, I’d had over ten colonists interested in a custom lamp. Even Papá had taken an interest, a few of my...well, more extreme builds perched further back in the showroom.
My greatest fear was failing the colony. Failing the rest of the human race back on Earth, who’s only hope of survival was this moon. Failing my family, my friends. Everyone I loved, and wanted to see safe and sound.
In hindsight, I should have drawn just a smidge more attention to the present rather than my thoughts, and motioned to step back without looking first. The yelp that accompanied the harsh ‘thump’ of my heel against the trim was likely what caught her attention, but that took a lot of the credit away from me yelling ‘damn it’ once or twice.
I’m only going to tag a few people, since I’m not sure who’s already been tagged recently. @fictional-semantics, @radiomacbeth, and @absolute-nonsense-scribblings, your words are deep, strength, quiet, and cold (or any variation that fits). Of course, there’s no pressure to do this, feel free to ignore c:
