i have discovered over the course of the last few weeks that post bankruptcy nic cage movies is my current favorite genre of film. it wasn’t something i intended to happen. there has been a lot of upheaval in my life in the last year and i really shouldn’t be surprised by anything at this point, but still, this little bit of self discovery caught me off guard.
if you are looking for somewhere to start, mandy is the obvious pinnacle of this new orleans pyromaniacal pyramid crypt of b movies, but after last night, i think that between worlds has a strong argument for the second tier. i haven’t seen all of the films in the genre yet, but after a dozen or so, they are starting to feel like the most coherent statement about our current era that i have found.
i probably just need some rest.
