It wasn’t guilt he felt. No shame, no second-guessing. He was not mortified with himself, not suddenly struck with any sort of regret. Truthfully, he did not feel much of anything — aside from the obvious physical satisfaction, there seemed to be only emptiness.
Izaya did not think much about it as he freshened up in front of the mirror; everything was going as expected, and there was no time to waste. The plane would be touching down any minute now and he would have to do some of his best acting to date for Shiloh’s mother. With one final splash of water onto his face, he turned and went back to sit beside Shiloh, lacing his fingers with hers and offering her his best love-struck smile.
