lovely person, that's just so god damn sweet! thank you!! your music taste is perfect, so just byeee xx
Nowadays, music that is socially accepted is clicked and dragged, refined and reworked, then spat out from machines and computers, then layers and layers of editing software, auto-tunes and drum, bass and synthesiser machines are added onto that. Now, that isn’t musical talent, rest assured.
Music, if you can even call it that, is becoming more and more lazy and talentless. Barely ever playing live, artists are putting together backing tracks and loops into cheesy love-songs to try their shot at cheap fame. Construct a one-hit wonder, and all the money, fame and the perks alongside come with it.
Every lyrical song nowadays seems to be driven by sex appeal and tell a weak narrative of finding the ‘perfect one’ or some other sort of emotional, lovey-dovey drivel. It’s plain to see that these artists (or their writers) have constructed these songs to pluck at the heartstrings of hormonal little girls and boys who think that by listening to this superficial ‘ringtone music’ will find them their one and only. All the single ladies, prick your ears up!
Musicians such as Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down and Muse who address political, social and economical issues directly in their lyrics are very important in these times, because nobody else seems to care. It’s painful when other artists whose music is just simplistic entertainment with no real admirable content believes their fame empowers them to influence people’s opinions and mindsets or use it to attract a particular demographic.
Nothing about today’s mainstream music is unique; it’s destroying our musical culture. Nothing about it is remotely audibly enjoyable. The only notable thing about it is that it’s catchy. Even then, after a few plays it becomes almost as unbearable as the artists themselves.
Nothing about mainstream music allows the listener to be taken on a journey without being jacked up on some sort of hallucinogen. It’s a very poor effort compared to the likes of Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells or Queen’s entire discography. It’s talentless and dry.
Proper music needs the correct elements. Firstly, it needs real instruments. The heart, soul, passion and creative spirit come along with this. No matter the genre, this is how you create music, not by manufacturing it on your laptop…
Mainstream music is defined by conformity. Possible hints at the Illuminati, anyone? It accumulates in the weak little minds of the musically ignorant and festers on their music taste until it swallows them whole. This is what modern music does. The real stuff, however, is defined by uniqueness. It provides a brilliant listening experience through all genres and fulfils its purpose. It allows the listener to be taken on a journey, their minds open and their hearts free. It’s definitely a step up from today’s styling.
As we sit in the car, on the train or bus, walking through the shopping centre on a Sunday afternoon or even relaxing at home, this mind-erasing form of expression that tears at the hems of music culture batters down on us like an angry mob of rioters. “Sex, drugs, money and sex appeal are all that seem to matter these days, I think that artists and people are missing the true meaning of music,” says Miriam, a high-schooler aged 16. “Music is meant to be felt by the heart and the soul,” claims Ellie, a local music worshipper.
It’s plain to see that the direction of our music industry is headed will be a soundwave apocalypse. Nothing will be left but the dry, barren wastelands of incessant basslines, auto-tunes and the ‘I-want-to-get-into-your-pants’ lyrical genius of those who survived. The end is nigh.
If somehow we could bring back the likes of Freddie Mercury, Kurt Cobain, Michael Jackson and John Lennon, the world would be a better place.
Young teenage girls would actually understand who Nirvana were, not just “Dave Grohl’s old band.” They would know more than Smells Like Teen Spirit and they would stop wondering, “who was that Kurt Cobain guy?” Not mentioning the ignorance and cynicism of people who refuse to listen to an openly gay man sing in one of the biggest rock bands there ever was, simply because he was gay, nor the magic of Michael because of his troubled past. I’m 100% sure neither of these discussed their personal lives in their songs.
The newest generation is damaged. The music people are exposed to nowadays is too perfect and flawless and doesn’t educate that mistakes and troubles are okay to make. There is little room for error, which is entirely bigoted and pretentious.
‘Whatever happened to real instruments?’ some may ask. Unfortunately, they’ve packed their bags, along with the common sense of the majority of humankind. Apparently, all the classic musical instruments have been replaced and listed as heritage artefacts, enshrouded in ‘do not touch’ signs.
Today, we’re seeing all the talent being wiped clean off the surface of the music industry and shunned. There are a few notable artists such as Muse, Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkeys and Coldplay who have swam up the stream of creative discouragement.
This could be classified as a form of torture. This mind controlling, perception altering, culture endangering entity that music has transformed into is a dangerous creature. Handle with care.
Ubiquitous to humankind, music is taking a rather depressing turn for the worst. It’s clear to us that today’s music industry is mainly filled with artists who so desire their cheap shot at fame. Their greed and power allows them to keep turning out popular, indistinguishable tunes, yet for some reason people admire this! With all the music there is in the world, people disregard the good stuff and worship Satan’s iPod.
Why did this happen? Where did we go wrong? What are we going to do to fix it? This nonsensical rubbish needs to stop for obvious reasons. Music is supposed to invent a universe, a universe is not supposed to invent it.
