I can reliably solve exactly half of a Rubik's Cube
Well, the six centers don't move. What I've actually done is put eight of the remaining twenty cubies in the right place, so it's more like two-fifths of a solve.
I am making a belated new year's resolution to learn to solve the whole thing. Chinese new year's resolution! There are maybe a dozen algorithms you can memorize to move a specific piece to a specific place, so I could probably bang it out in a weekend. I don't think I'll ever be a professional speedcuber, but this is a children's toy, it doesn't take a genius to solve it (no matter what pop culture says).
