What if somehow Ruby managed to capture Roman in the first episode, she becomes a minor celebrity at Beacon and it makes her feel overwhelmed and isolated so she becomes closer to Blake who treats her like a person?
ah...how bout we toss in pyrrha and make things a little Spicy
au where purruby (pyrrha/blake/ruby) was a thing and we got cute shots of them going to coffeeshops, bookstores, parks, and other places to hang out and be "normal" for a while
Because I can. Thatâs it, thatâs the only justification.
Itâs not that theyâve always been competitive. Itâs just, within Team RWBY, they found unique ways of motivating each other.Â
When Yang suggested they make a bet to see who could and couldnât get a date to the Rose-Branwen-Xiao Long annual picnic, Ruby thought it meant just motivating each other to go out and try dating, seeing as they were gearing up for graduation and all. Figuring out how to balance a social life with everything else- that was just a skill theyâd have to learn, and what better way to drive the point home than with a little healthy competition and bragging rights?
However, as Ruby stepped onto the path leading to the hill that overlooked her childhood home, she had a feeling that this would either be the last competition Team RWBY held or the first in a never-ending escalating war that would threaten to destroy all of Remnant in one way or another.
âCalm down.â Fingertips lightly brushed the back of one hand, enticing her to interlace their fingers. âEverything will be fine.â
âThatâs easy for you to say, Blake!â She leaned into her girlfriendâs side. âItâs not your family!â
Her other girlfriend pressed against her other side. âWell, Blakeâs family is quite different in a number of ways.â
âOh, I could say the same for yours,â the Faunus replied with a little smirk.Â
âAnd theyâre both miles away from my family.â She whined. âDo you two have any idea how my moms are going to react to this?â
âOf course.â Blake nodded solemnly. âSummer will be overjoyed and Raven will threaten to kill us.â
âThat does seem to be the most likely.â Pyrrha offered a soft smile, gently readjusting her red cape. âBut we knew that when we started dating. Between your stories and Yangâs, itâs hard not to see how things will play out.â
Another groan left her lips as she reached up, pulling her hood over her head to try and hide her blush. Truthfully, she hadnât intended to date both of them. Sheâd just... casually mentioned to Blake one day in the library that she thought Pyrrha was pretty, and kind, and sweet, and the Faunus agreed, even confessed to having a bit of a crush on the so-called Invincible Girl. It wasnât until her heart clenched painfully at hearing the whispered words that it occurred to her that she maybe had a crush of her own, but she encouraged her teammate to pursue it anyway. She shouldnât stand in the way of her friend finding happiness, right?
But then Blake admitted that she had a crush on someone else as well, and it would make her feel guilty to pursue one but not the other, and she didnât really think either would pan out anyway. That led into a brief little debate about whether or not admitting to a crush would be a good idea and Ruby blurted out that she, too, had a crush on Pyrrha. Then, she saw the little bit of hurt in amber eyes, and followed it up with admitting that she had a crush on Blake as well, and she wanted them both to be happy.
Thatâs about the time that Pyrrha herself leaned over from the adjacent table and asked both of them on a date.
A week later, Yang proposed the little contest for their family picnic, and, well, she couldnât not bring both of them to Patch. Blake already had an invite, on account of being part of the team, but getting Pyrrha out there without raising any brows...
âOh, crap, Yangâs going to kill me.â Ruby groaned again.
âIâm sure sheâll take the news better than Raven.â They started up the hill, Blake squeezing her hand reassuringly. âI mean, sheâs our friend and my partner. Sheâs not going to object-â
âBut she might tease you a little bit for not telling her sooner.â Pyrrha pointed out, chuckling softly and slipping her hand into Rubyâs unoccupied one. âIf she starts anything, Iâll challenge her to an arm wrestling contest.â
âOur knight in gold armor.âÂ
Over her head, Blake and Pyrrha exchanged a soft kiss, and somehow seeing her girlfriends kiss made things a little better, because somewhere deep down, she knew both of them had good points. She really didnât have anything to worry about; sheâd just never brought anyone home before.
But, really, what did she have to worry about?
âRuby! Blake!â She blinked, looking up to the top of the hill, where the light breeze had caught her motherâs white cloak while she smiled down at them. âAnd I believe thatâs Pyrrha with you, isnât it? Yang mentioned youâd be bringing... guests.â
Okay, that meant her sister had either told Taiyang the truth and heâd carefully worded it when he informed their other parents or had told Raven something vague and sheâd repeated her verbatim. By the little smirk on the womanâs lips, though, she didnât think it mattered; her mom had seen straight through it.
âHi, Mom! I, uh, wanted to introduce you! To my girlfriends!â
âLike momma, like daughter, huh?â She opened her arms and it didnât matter that she was just a few months shy of becoming a full fledged Huntress, Ruby immediately released her girlfriendsâ hands and charged forwards, jumping into her momâs outstretched arms. âLooks like youâre growing up, my little Rutabaga. Iâm proud of you.â
âThanks, Mom.â She drew back a little bit, a bit of nervousness creeping into her smile. âDo you think Mommaâs going to... well...â
âOh, she went and dug out her mask the moment it clicked.â
Her shoulders fell. âSheâs not going to make a scene, is she?â
âNow now, your motherâs dramatic, but I donât think sheâd intentionally ruin the picnic.â Silver eyes narrowed briefly. âAt least, she better not, or sheâll have me to answer to.â
âAnd me!â Tai called out, carrying a tub of potato salad up the hill. âGood to see you, Ruby. And Blake, Pyrrha- Yang mentioned thereâd be more than just us this time around! Glad both of you could make it!â
Summer, however, became instantly suspicious. âTai, whereâs our wayward wife?âÂ
âOh, I thought she was up here with you.â
âNo, I havenât seen her this morning.â
Ruby opened her mouth, because her Momma rather liked hanging out in the attic ever since last year, when Yang and Ruby combined their talents to turn it into a hybrid study and aviary. However, before the suggestion could leave her lips, the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end and she had to bite back something that would get her a sharp look from her mom as a black portal tinged with red appeared. Slowly, a bone white mask with red lines emerged, burning red eyes peering out through the slits.
âSo... you two are dating my daughters, is that it?â Raven growled out in that patented âIâm-a-threat-and-you-should-fear-meâ voice that had previously only come out during scary movies and Halloween.
Blake and Pyrrha, however, remained unfazed, one well adjusted to the shenanigans that regularly occurred within the Rose-Branwen-Xiao Long household and the other simply accustomed to more intimidating displays back home in Mistral.
And, sure enough, it was Pyrrha who first rose to the challenge. âActually, weâre only dating one daughter.â
That brought Raven to a halt, halfway through her portal, the red of her blade just beginning to peak out. Not that she would actually draw the weapon, of course; it was probably just for show anyway. âWait, which daughter?â
Blakeâs ears twitched though she held her ground. âRuby.â
âOh.â Hopping out the rest of the way, she reached up and removed her mask, shaking he head and running a hand through her bangs. âNevermind then. Sheâs not the one I have to worry about.â
âMomma! What does that mean?â Ruby crossed her arms over her chest and tapped her foot. âYang has good taste, you know.â
âIâm not saying she doesnât.â Her lips curled into a little smirk. âBut, between the two of you, sheâs far more likely to bring a date for the express purpose of getting one over on someone, and Iâm not getting pranked by my own kid.â The young team leader raised a brow until the woman relented. âAgain.â
âShe did get you pretty good last Christmas,â Tai said, checking over the old wooden table that could probably be replaced- theyâd spent more time and effort trying to replace the benches and tabletop than making a new one wouldâve taken at this point- and nodding to himself. âI thought it was hilarious.â
âOf course you would.â Clicking her tongue, Raven favored Blake and Pyrrha with a smile. âItâs good to see both of you again and Iâm happy to hear youâre both dating Ruby. Be good to her, alright?â
Ruby put her hands on her hips. âWait, so you were really doing the whole âIâm the terror of your nightmaresâ thing just to scare off whichever inappropriate date you think Yang might be bringing?â
âI canât believe you still remember that,â her Momma said, coming over and wrapping her up in a hug, careful not to catch the edges of her mask on her cape. âIf Iâd known it wouldâve scared you that bad, I wouldnât have done it.â
âRaven, she was six, everything terrifies a six-year-old.â Summer sighed. âTai, talk to her; Iâm sure Yangâs not going to prank her today.â
âI know my daughter; sheâs plotting something.â
âHoney, sheâs probably not.â
âDonât take her side!â
As her parents began fussing with each other, Ruby turned her attention back to her girlfriends. âSo! That was a thing.â
âWell, we didnât get a death threat!â
âIâm genuinely surprised that all we got was a stern warning.â Blake then smiled, leaning down to peck her cheek. âWe told you it would be fine.â Pyrrha curled her arm around Rubyâs shoulders, pulling her closer while the Faunusâ ears flicked back. âOh, Weiss is here.â
âIs someone with her?â Although she couldnât actually let it be too known, sheâd worried a bit about her partner- specifically, the pinch that came to her brow when she accepted Yangâs suggestion for the contest. Sure, she had her suspicions that the former heiress had a crush of her own that she hadnât yet addressed, but Weiss always got... touchy about discussing personal issues. So, sheâd tried obliquely encouraging her, because, really, even if she could be a little... difficult from time-to-time, or dramatic, or both, Weiss had come a long way since their initiation! Who wouldnât want to date her? âOh, please tell me someoneâs with her.â
âSomeone is.â A slick grin crossed her face. âSomeone we know, too.â
With a raised brow, she popped up onto her toes, trying to peer over the lip of the hill. When she finally caught sight of her partner and her guest coming up the path, she outright laughed. âWeiss! Coco!â
âOh, calm down you dolt.â Of course she rolled her eyes, but the smile tugging at her lips and very, very light blush on her cheeks speaking more than her words. âIâm glad you remember our names, though.â
âHello again.â Pyrrha waved. âHowâs the Huntress life treating you, Coco?â
âOh, itâs a blast.â Tapping her sunglasses to lower them enough for chocolate eyes to look at them, she walked over and pulled each of them into a hug. âI spent last week in a Vacuo desert chasing down an alpha duneworm- the thing was almost half a mile long. Managed to stop by a lovely village and pick up some nice scarves, though, for our big trip to Atlas.â
âAtlas?â Blakeâs ears perked up as she tilted her head. âWeiss, are you really-â
âItâs not for my father, but I would like to see Klein and my mother again.â She shrugged, spreading her hands. âWinter swears up and down she talked some sense into the woman. Iâd like to see it for myself.â
âAnd introducing your kickass girlfriend to them.â Coco threw her a look. âThat is on the list.â
âYes, yes, of course.â Blue eyes darted between Ruby, Blake, and Pyrrha. âSo... question. Pyrrha, who are you here with?â
âMy girlfriends,â the redhead replied with a wide smile, putting a hand on each of their shoulders.
Weissâ shoulders fell. âGirlfriends?â
âUh... surprise?â Ruby offered a weak little smile. âItâs... pretty recent.â
Before the former heiress could start in on a lecture about keeping secrets, Coco wrapped her arms around Weissâ waist and chuckled. âOh no, my pretty pearl, youâre not about to get onto them for not telling when weâve been dating for almost six months and you didnât mention it.â
âI- I was- ITâS NOT THE SAME!â Weiss sputtered, either from genuine outrage or just being unaccustomed to open affection still. Through the years, sheâd gotten better... but she still had some distance to go.
âIt really is, though,â Blake said with a fond shake of her head. âYouâre just being contrarian again.â
âAm not.â
âHey, hey now, no fighting at the family picnic!â Tai warned, though there was warmth in his voice. âAnd whenâs Yang getting here? Not like her to be fashionably late.â
âIâll call her.â Ruby offered, pulling out her scroll.Â
A few moments later, her sister picked up, though the screen initially only showed the blue sky overhead while laughter rang out, Yangâs happy visage eventually filling the screen. âHey, Rubes! Everyone there?â
Blake and Pyrrha pressed close to her while Weiss and Coco peered from the other side. âYeah, where are you?â
âI had to pick up my date from the docks! Literally!â Her shoulders shrugged, jostling the person in her arms. âSo, howâs our little bet going?â
âWell, Ruby brought two girlfriends, and I happen to be one of them, so I think we win,â the Faunus said with a smirk.
âWhat about Weiss?â
Suddenly, Ruby found her scroll being pulled from her hand as the former heiress glared at the screen. âI brought my girlfriend of six months, Yang. Did you honestly think I wouldnât be able to get a date?â
âNah, of course not! But, ya know, we gotta have a second place, and we have been together seven months! But, thatâs kinda a silly way to judge it, so how about something else?âÂ
âWhat do you propose?â
Silver eyes widened as she got that feeling again, the hairs standing up again, and she had to glance over to ensure Raven wasnât about to pull something. Her Mom and Momma were a bit busy fussing over the chocolate chips cookies, though- one trying to sneak a few while the other played defense so there would be some for everyone- which meant it would be Yang pulling something this time around.
âWell, Iâve been carrying my sweetheart since the docks. Figure thatâs enough of a headstart for you.â Lilac eyes danced with mischief. âSo, you pick up your date, and the first one to drop their girlfriend is in last place.â
Ruby, Blake, and Pyrrha exchanged looks that ranged from curious to cautiously optimistic.
âYouâre on, Xiao Long.â Returning Ruby her scroll, Weiss motioned for Coco to come over, the shorter of the two still managing to slip an arm beneath her girlfriendâs knees while the other supported her shoulders- a classic bridal carry. âThere. Now, get here in some semblance of short order and accept your defeat with dignity.â
âOh, Iâm already here! Turn around!â
As one, they all looked back towards the path leading up to the hill, and Ruby could see it happening a moment before everything did.
Because her sister hadnât shown up with just any date cradled in her arms, no.
She happened to be carrying Winter Schnee, Weissâ big sister, who had traded her military uniform for board shorts and a tank top.
In pure shock, Weissâ body went slack, which meant she immediately dropped her girlfriend to the ground with an undignified oomph.
âWeiss, how dare you,â Winter said, collapsing the scroll and tucking it into Yangâs jacket without looking. âYou havenât even introduced me to your girlfriend yet, and youâve already dropped her, really, I raised you better than that.â
âWeiss, what the fuck.â Coco pushed herself up to her elbows. âCould you be a little less of a total mess?â
Now, the former heiress was caught between apologizing to her girlfriend, explaining to her sister, and yelling at Yang for engineering it. Amidst it all, Ravenâs loud laughter could be heard, breathless explanations of how Yangâs pranks were good as long as they werenât directed at her earning chiding remarks from both Summer and Tai while the former tried to keep his own amusement in check.
Meanwhile, Ruby slipped her hands into those of her girlfriends, smiling up at them, and unsure why she was ever worried in the first place. For all the craziness the past few years brought with them, theyâd forged the sort of family and support system that could weather any storm, as evidenced when Winter was set back on her feet and immediately went over to warmly introduce herself to Coco while Weiss lightly smacked Yangâs shoulder in recompense.
âHey,â she said, looking up into amber and emerald eyes. âI love both of you.â
âLove you too,â her girlfriends replied, pressing kisses to her cheeks.
Yeah... she really had nothing to worry about at all.
Big thanks to @teriyaki-deer for commissioning one of my favorite RWBY ships! As a note, I can confirm the applesauce in oatmeal trick, it does wonders for the consistency. Also, to be clear, Ruby is agender in this, and Blake is genderfluid.

It would be more than fair to say that Ruby Rose had their fair share of talents. They could pit a lien from half a kilometer away, or with just a glance know how to take someone's weapon apart and put it back together to where it worked even better than before. They also had a talent for finding the good in others and the world around them, never letting anything keep them down for long.
Despite this, Ruby still felt somewhat inadequate, especially when they compared themself to their datemates (even if they told them there was no reason for them to do so). Still, they couldn't help it, not when they were dating Blake Belladonna and Pyrrha Nikos. After all, Blake was Blake. They had so much fire, always willing to defend those who couldn't defend themselves and always fighting for justice. It certainly didn't help they were always drop-dead gorgeous, no matter how they chose to present on a given day. And while it seemed like everyone knew of Pyrrha, only Ruby and Blake really knew her. Her kindness, her patience, how she was always driving herself to be even just a little bit better than before, were things only Ruby and Blake really saw.
But on Sundays, their days, Ruby could at least do this for their loves. It was difficult slipping out of bed, but a quick switch with a pillow had Blake and Pyrrha cuddling each other. Making their way to the little kitchenette attached to Team RWBY's dorm, they flicked on the light underneath the microwave to see before getting to work. Ruby set some oats to soak for later before pulling together all the ingredients they needed for their special waffle mix, and soon enough had the batter portioned out and cooking on the griddle.
While keeping an eye on those, Ruby turned their attention to prepping a light fruit salad, with a few kinds of melon, peaches, and berries, putting the bowl in the fridge to keep it cool. They also got out the syrup for later, then started working on a root hash Velvet taught them how to make, dicing up potatoes, sweet potatoes, and carrots before roasting them all together with some peppers and onions. Ruby then started plating up the waffles, adding just enough syrup and butter to keep from making a mess later, and added some of the root hash and bowls of fruit salad.
That done, they made a pot of quick oatmeal, dividing it up between three bowls before adding the special touches. Applesauce went in all three bowls, with chopped apples, raisins, and cinnamon going in Pyrrha's portion. Ruby then added blueberries and chopped banana to Blake's bowl, and a couple tablespoons of blackberry jam, walnuts, and more chopped banana to their own. Adding those bowls to their respective trays, Ruby then started up the french press using Blake's fancy coffee, figuring the smell would wake their datemates up without risking getting pulled back into bed. As lovely as that would be, Ruby was sure their triad would be up to something today, and wanted to make sure there was enough daylight for them to do it.
Sure enough, the twin pairs of arms draping themselves on them proved the coffee worked, and Ruby gave kisses where they could before shooing the owners over to the table where breakfast awaited. Once they were seated, Ruby set out their coffees, made to taste -- a pinch of salt in Blake's, and vanilla creamer in Pyrrha's -- and a glass of milk for themself. Everyone started digging in, giving themselves time to wake up a bit more, before Pyrrha broke the silence, saying, "You know Ruby, I've been meaning to ask something. What do you put in these waffles to make them so good?"
Blake swallowed their mouthful of said delicious waffles, adding, "I almost recognize the flavor, but for some reason I just can't place it. Whatever you do, it's very good."
Ruby blushed lightly. "Oh, it's not that big a secret. I just add this pumpkin pie spice mix to the batter! It's a trick Yang showed me when she was teaching me how to cook."
Blake nodded, swallowing a mouthful of coffee, and said, "Well, you've clearly been an excellent student, if this spread is anything to go by." They grinned briefly, before eating a spoonful of their oatmeal. "While we're getting you to divulge all your culinary secrets, what do you add to get the oatmeal this consistency? It's not soupy like if you'd just added water, but I can't taste any milk either."
Sitting up straighter, Ruby said, "Now that's a trick not even Yang knows!" They leaned in closer, like they were sharing a big secret. "That's the applesauce. It adds a really nice consistency, and carries none of the risks in case someone," and here Ruby paused to direct a teasing look in Pyrrha's direction, "happens to be lactose-intolerant."
Nodding to themselves, Blake and Pyrrha pressed quick kisses to their datemate's cheeks before going back to eating. Quiet settled over the table, broken only by the clinking of silverware and little sips. After a while, Blake cleared their throat to get their lovers' attention.
"I'm sure you've been wondering what I planned for today, since it's my turn to pick. Well, I figure that to start, Pyrrha, you and I will take care of the dishes while our rosebud here takes a shower. Once we're all ready, there's apparently a neat exhibit at the art museum downtown with some newly-uncovered Classical Mistrali pottery. Then, after lunch, I thought we could wander through the rest of downtown. Then we order dinner in and watch silly cooking shows until bed. How does that sound?"
Ruby fairly vibrated in their seat. "Ooh, ooh, can we watch that one where chefs make stuff with what's already in people's fridges?"
Laughing just a bit, Blake said, "Of course, Ruby, I know that one's your favorite. And you, Pyrrha?"
"Well, it's not a cooking show, but I do like that documentary about the living South Mistrali masters. There's something inspiring about watching people talk shop. And I certainly can't get enough of you doing that, Ruby," said Pyrrha, leaning over to kiss their forehead.
Ruby's blush returned in full force. They stood up, plate clean, and said, "Well, let's get started!" Zooming in to give both their datemates a quick kiss, they used a touch of their semblance to dart into the bathroom.
Chuckling to themselves, Blake and Pyrrha stepped into the kitchenette before stopping abruptly.
Blake turned to Pyrrha, one eyebrow raised. It looked like every countertop had at least a few dirty dishes on them. "Well, now we know why they didn't try to stop us from doing the dishes."

right, so, i wasnât sure if this was meant to be purruby or pyrruby, so i went with the ot3
this au is basically canon except with no cinder stuff happening so theyâve graduated beacon, ruby is about 20, blake and pyrrha are abt 22
blake uses they/them (so does yang)
-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-
âAre you flirtingwith me, Miss Rose?â Blake asked, flashing their fangs in a sharp, wickedsmile. Ruby decided they only sounded mock-surprised, based on that. Yep, thatseemed like a safe assumption.
Pyrrha peeked just to the right of Blake, her head tilted ata funny angle that normally wouldâve made Ruby laugh and smile right back ather. âOr with me?â she tacked on, herarms still wrapped firmly around Blakeâs waist. Rubyâs gaze had been drawn toher hands for awhile, wishing and wishing and hoping that Pyrrha would hold her like that one day, close and possessive, but gentle while she kissed her neck.
Ruby thought she wanted that.
But Blake and Pyrrha were both older, had been togetherlonger, and that was how Pyrrha held Blake.
She wondered how Pyrrha would hold her.
Blake was a tad more unscrupulous, despite their closefriendship with Yang. Ruby knew howBlake liked to hold her already, claws sinking in making the silver in Rubyâseyes shimmer and shift like a river of molten metal. Their grip was strong, firmlike a vice, but there was a softness in their eyes when silver met gold. Blakealways asked if Ruby was okay.
Ruby finally found her voice again, despite the flush acrossher cheeks. âCanât it be both?â she squeaked, fiddling with the heart-shaped boxof chocolates in her hands.
âMm, it could be,âPyrrha said, relinquishing her hold on Blake. âBut I believe itâs youranniversary with Blake, is it not?â
Ruby sheepishly nodded her head. Blake and Pyrrha had datedyears, but had left their relationship open for most of it since leavingBeacon, due to their life of constant traveling. Ruby and Blake happened totake a lot of hunts together.
ThingsâŚhappened.
This would be Rubyâs three-month anniversary with Blake; of officially dating Blake, that was tosay. As far as Yang knew, there was never any âunofficialâ part of this.Ignorant bliss was where Blake and Ruby decided to leave them.
The trio had a separate anniversary date for when Ruby andPyrrha began seeing one another in more romantic entanglements, though that hadonly started a few weeks ago, and Pyrrha was still careful. Blake liked totease that Ruby was missing out.
Ruby didnât have to tell them that she knew; it was obviousin the look she got in her eye watching Blake and Pyrrha together, wishing shecould fit naturally between them; instead, she felt like a roadblock, allawkward and jagged cutting into their relationship.
Blakeâs hand fit warmly against Rubyâs palm, their fingersslipping between hers and squeezing. Ruby smiled again, first at Blake, then atPyrrha. âIâll have âem back for breakfast tomorrow,â she promised, tucking thebox of chocolates under her free arm.
Pyrrhaâs lip curled on a warm grin. âIn one piece, please. Both of you.â
Ruby had made it a tradition to take Blake out on anovernight hunt with her on their anniversary, a tribute to how theyâd startedtheir relationship. Only, these hunts usually had a lot less bloodshed and alot more stargazing than the originals.
She squeezed Blakeâs fingers back. âIâll keep âem safe.â
Pyrrha kissed her, so quickly that Rubyâs lips burned.
Well, sheâd picked the right profession. She had all theright people kissing her.
