David defines a pure heart as a heart that is free from all falsehood and any kind of deceit; a truthful heart. (Psalm‬ ‭24:3-4‬) James says a pure heart is not a double-minded heart. Hearts that do not stuck to one standard. ("Come close to God [with a contrite heart] and He will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; and purify your [unfaithful] hearts, you double-minded [people].” ‭‭JAMES‬ ‭4:8‬ ‭AMP) In Matthew 22:37, Jesus tells us to love the Lord with all our hearts, soul and mind - not part of it, no double-mindedness, no deceit. *Purity of heart then means having a heart that wills only God's standards, a heart that desires to be like Christ.* Why is it important to have a pure heart? 1. Without a pure heart, it is impossible to see God.( Hebrews‬ ‭12:14‬, Matthew 5:8) 2. Jesus cares about our hearts, what we feed it and what we keep in our hearts. (1 Samuel‬ ‭16:7‬ ‭MSG) 3. Our actual self is a result of what we keep in our hearts. Everything we do stems from what is in our hearts. 4. Our hearts must belong to Christ, He should be the only One occupying it. Christ is pure and His home is pure, so in order to reside in your heart, it must be pure. How can you be pure in heart? 1. God purifies our hearts through faith. The pursuit of purity of heart begins with us and then God, like David, in Psalm 51:10, he asked God to create a clean heart in him. We ask God for it and have faith that He will grant our request. ("and made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.”Acts‬ ‭15:9‬ ‭NKJV.) 2. Christ should be our standard for life. We must imitate and strive to be like Him. Prayer: Dear Lord, create in me a clean and pure heart daily. Give me the Grace to have a heart like Jesus.
