I am so jealous :-( I don't know you but, if I could stow away in your suitcase, I'd be the happiest.
I could offer loads of pictures, and maybe a postcard? :)
(Though, to be fair, I do live in southern Germany, so a lot of the travel destinations on that list are not too far off. Plus, I travel a lot for my PhD research, which isn’t nearly as relaxing as I wish.)
Orange!
Nonny also asked for Orange so this is for you also!orange: what makes you feel warm inside? what’s your favorite halloween tradition? what’s the last thing you learned? when’s the last time you felt obsessed? what’s your favorite article of clothing?
Dogs oh my god, dogs I just look at them and the world is twenty thousand times better, also cats, birds...squirrels, definitely squirrels...and bunnies...I guess animals in general make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside?I don’t really have a particular Halloween tradition (except more recently, watching What We Do In The Shaows), but Halloween is basically my favourite time of year ever
The last thing I learned was that Louis XIV was the first one to order that street lamps be placed around the streets of Paris.
I currently feel very obsessed with Versailles, I think probably permanently, also permanently obsessed with Les Mis, and more recently, Vampire the Masquerade?
My favourite article of clothing is either my black longcoat, or maybe my tall boots idk.... I don’t have many clothes but what I have I like. I really need to dig that coat out...

I’m just some random person who follows your blog and stuff but black lipstick always reminds me of you too. You’re the #1 black lipstick appreciator that I know of.
omg that's awesome!! i'm so flattered *_* ehehe
"I know from some history blogs it’s not totally accurate, and really, I don’t expect anything from TV or movies to be accurate (my meter with books is much higher, though, for different reasons I won’t get into this post)." I saw this post of yours and I'm really curious about your opinion on historical fiction books. So, if you have time to make a post on that, I'd really like to read it. (please tag it with my name so I can make sure I find it) Thank you!
No problem! (Hehe, I was half expecting someone to have a reaction to that comment).
I ADORE historical fiction, whether it's in movie, TV, book, or any other form. It is to me how fantasy and sci-fi are to others; it's a way for me to go to a different time and place that I couldn't otherwise because of money and not having the ability to time-travel.
The comment, though, was addressing more so the differences between visual story-telling and written. Because of timing and pacing, stories told through visuals, from plays to YouTube, are going to be more condensed and less detail heavy. This is especially true for adaptations, and then EVEN MORE THAN THAT for historical fiction. Characters from history will be combined together or omitted. Events, objects, clothing, will be altered for the sake of drama and narrative. Take the story of the Von Trapps, for instance: in The Sound of Music they flee the Nazis by climbing the mountains into Switzerland. In reality they just took a train. The fact was changed because it was more visually dramatic.
With novels this is less the case because it's a.) A less visually-powered medium and b.) able to take a lot more time telling a story. Novels can take their time setting up people and events that would have been omitted in movies for the sake of time. Not to say that novels are textbooks - they're just as likely to mess something up as a movie. But they have they luxury of time that movies and TV do not, and as a result they tend to be a bit closer to the facts than movies. So as a result I hold books up to a higher standard than movies and TV - and because the film industry has had a shaky relationship with history anyway. And I tend to take most historical fiction with a grain of salt, some mediums just bigger than others.
Gif request: gifs of Ben shaving! I need gifs of that to exist. Thank you, thank you.
of course ;) i have queued for you, keep an eye out for it :)
