puppy sammy :D puppy hybrid sammy who never grew out of "teething" on dean's things and having to sleep with something of dean's (usually a shirt) directly on his body. truly a big puppy who doesn't realize he's not a little baby anymore.
When a new pup is born, it is customary to slowly acclimate the little one to the family's scents. Baby alpha Dean didn't like the scratchy scent patches the hospital made him wear, even though he got to pick a really cool batman one! It still wasn't nice and his mama smelled different than usual. He couldn't even smell his daddy. Luckily he got to carry his teddy that was scented mildly from the years it's worn off to comfort him. So, when they got to bring Sam home, Dean was so happy he was bouncing off the walls because he wanted to scent the baby so badly!
Unfortunately for Dean, he'd have to wait forever (6 months) until they could do a pack nesting all together, since that was far stronger than going about their day. While six months passed, Dean helped his mom by giving her things he scented especially for Sammy! It seemed to work, because whenever Dean was in the room Sam would smile and giggle like no other.
One day when the family was eating breakfast. Mary had a special announcement. “Dean, do you know what tomorrow is?” He had to pause mid-bite and shook his head, clueless, "At bedtime, Sammy gets to sleep with us in the nest.”
By the look on Dean's face you'd think the kid had won a bazillion dollars. He put his sandwich down and ran circles around the table. Shouting with delight when John scooped him up after the third lap and ruffled his hair.
Only… tomorrow never came. Dean and John came home after getting some supplies for Sammy's little area in the packnest to see firetrucks and neighbors surrounding the house. John dropped the bags and tried to run up the stairs. “Mary! My mate's in there! My baby!” He cried, pushing against the firefighters.
“Sir!” One of them barked, trying to calm him. “Your baby is safe, right here.” A different firefighter walked closer, holding a little bundle that was screaming its little lungs out.
John held Sammy close to his chest and started to openly sob. Dean just stared, he never saw his dad cry before. Not like that. He tugged the pant leg of one of the men and looked up. “Where's my mama?” He asked.
And then, Dean heard the words that shattered his world. “She’s…” the man paused, like he was trying to find the right words. “I’m sorry kid, but your mama’s gone. She’s in heaven now.”
His mom told him heaven is where all the angels were. So that meant she was an angel too. It made him sad though, you can’t see angels. Dean would never get to see his mama again.
