I had this lecture yesterday and riot grrl came up! I was so excited, I was just like, bitch, this is my time to shine. The movement consisted of radical punk rock feminists who wanted to redifine standards of musical talent, the idea was that anyone who wanted to could play. There was an insistance of controlling their own media and there self made zines and home recorded albums were seen as as valid as the mainstream press/ record industry. They wanted to get away from the idea that once men liked it and they were being paid they would be succesful and instead redefined success as when they and other girls around there local area liked their music.” And then there was a silence.
