Pumpkin Light: The WTF storybook I read as a kid
First let me preface by saying this was a NOT a bad book. It was a beautifully illustrated children's book and the title is charming. It was called "Pumpkin Light." But it had the strangest plot. I recalled it tonight and thought to myself "Was that real?" The story was about a little boy artist, who loved to draw pumpkins. One night he gets cursed as a punishment for some petty offense. I forget what the logic was. But he was turned into a dog and forced to guard a magical pumpkin for an entire year before he could return to being a real boy. And it was... just such a strange plot. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong. I don't know. I don't have the book on hand. But that's what I remember of it. I remember it was beautifully illustrated and I remember loving the title. But thinking that the plot was just ...odd.
Also how did the boy explain his year-long disappearance to his family? "Yeah, a spirit turned me into a dog because I broke curfew or some bullsh-t. Sorry. We live in a weird town."
