âHey,â Michael whispered as he stepped into the back lounge of the tour bus, fixing his hair as you gave him a small smile. He made his way over to the couch to sit down next to you, pursing his lips together before mustering up the courage to start a conversation that he still wasnât sure he wanted to have. âAre you okay? You just seem a little off lately.â
You looked up at the ceiling in an attempt to stop the brimming tears in your eyes from falling while tugging on the bracelet around your left wrist, a shaky breath escaping past your lips as you shrugged. âIâm just not sure if I can do this anymore.â Michaelâs heart sank at your words, his worst fear coming true as his eyes darted towards the ground. âItâs just-â you tried to continue, but all of the emotions youâve been bottling up seemed to catch up to you and prevent you from doing so. âAll of the hate messages and the paparazzi following us everywhere, and the long distance thing- Iâm not sure Iâm suited for that lifestyle. I think I deserve better than that.â
Michaelâs eyes fluttered close as a hot tear spilled out, every insecurity heâd had about himself in a relationship seeming to be true, the heaviness in his chest only making it harder for him to breathe when all he could do was nod. âYou do.â
You bit your lip at his response, your body shaking at this point from trying not to completely break out into sobs. âBut the thing that sucks most,â you went on, your voice just above a whisper as Michael caught his breath, trying to prepare himself for the final blow. âThe thing that sucks the most, Michael, is that Iâm in love with you. I donât want your lifestyle, I donât want all of this attention from strangers, but I am so fucking in love with you-â
Um, yes, this was supposed to be posted for the wedding!5sos blurb night that was held last week, but Iâm an old granny who fell asleep before that could happen and I've been really busy since then until now. So, hemmocrat, here is my half of our trade!Â
You sat alone on the couch in your living room, curled up on one end with your knees up against your chest, unconsciously playing with the rings on your left ring finger.
You brought your hand up to your face, staring down at the rings as a limp began to form in your throat. One was your engagement ring, given to you over a year ago, and the other was your wedding ring; you'd barely even worn it for six months.
Six months.
It was hard for you to believe that those six months were all it took for things with Luke to fall apart.
You laughed bitterly to yourself because you knew that your relationship was far from perfect before you got married, but you did it anyway.
Thinking back to your engagement all that time ago, you felt your heart squeeze painfully in your chest. You were so sure that agreeing to marry Luke would fix everything, and when it didn't, you figured that getting married would do the trick. You had known all along that things wouldn't last and yet, here you were, dreading Luke's return.
It wasn't that you didn't love himâ you loved him more than you'd ever loved anyone, but it was hard on you to be with him when he worked so much, and even harder now that he was on tour. You knew that he had missed out on a lot of things because of you. He never blamed you, but he was warned that getting married so young may slow down his career. He didn't listen to anyone, however, as he claimed that being with you was more important to him than anything else.
You weren't angry at him for working, you were ecstatic that he was living his dream. You were angry at yourself for being foolish enough to think that he would make room in his life for you.
Standing at the altar, Michaelâs not really sure if heâs ever felt this fucking nervous in his whole life. Sure, there was the first show he and the boys did to a total crowd of twelve and he swore to god he nearly shit himself. And then there was the boyâs first stadium concert, the entire venue filled with screaming fans just for them and he threw up twice before going on stage. And of course, he canât forget your guyâs first date, when his hands were shaking so bad that he spilled the overpriced not-even-tasteful wine all over his lap and nearly cried in embarrassment, nor the time you missed your period and you both waited on baited breath as you took three pregnancy tests.Â
No, this definitely took the cake. Heâd swore heâd never sweat so much in a completely air-conditioned place and his words had never had such a hard time forming themselves on his tongue, his usual banter absent as he waited anxiously for your bridesmaids to just start filing out already. Fondly, as he stood up with your uncle who was set to marry the two of you, his heart practically beat out of his chest as he watched his mom and yours clutch each others hands tightly and sniffled together at the thought of their babies growing up.
Fighting with Luke was never fun but it was especially frustrating two days before your wedding. Both of you were absolutely frazzled, yours and his family constantly in and out of your apartment with last minute arrangements or gifts or âwords of wisdomâ and Lukeâs mom was absolutely driving you up the walls with crying nearly every time she set eyes on the sparkly ring on your finger and god, weddingâs were fucking frustrating.Â
It started after youâd both cleared dinner, choosing to cuddle on the couch in your ratty pajamas to watch TV on the last night together as an unmarried couple. You knew without a doubt that the next day was going to be hell considering the rehearsal dinner was tomorrow night and your motherâs quick tongue and Lukeâs momâs over willingness to be involved were going to have you crumbling in no time. So, you were looking forward to savoring your last moment of tranquility with the one you were set to marry in forty-eight hours and counting, expecting a quiet evening in before the chaos really kicked off.
You were wrong.
