A significant Social Security change has officially begun, impacting approximately 3.6 million beneficiaries across the United States.
The rollout follows the implementation of the Social Security Fairness Act, which repealed the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO). As a result, many retirees—particularly former public-sector workers such as teachers, firefighters, and police officers—will receive increased monthly benefits. Some recipients are also eligible for retroactive payments.
The Social Security Administration notes that payment adjustments may be processed at different times, so beneficiaries should monitor their official SSA accounts for updates.
