Teaching is a performative act....Teachers are not performers in the traditional sense of the word in that our work is not meant to be a spectacle.  Yet it is meant to serve as a catalyst that calls everyone to become more and more engaged, to become active participants in learning.

This then is the great humanistic and historical task of the oppressed: to liberate themselves and their oppressors as well

What and how much had I lost by trying to do only what was expected of me instead of what I myself had wished to do? What a waste, what a senseless waste!... I would have to weigh many things carefully before deciding and there would be some things that would cause quite a bit of trouble, simply because I had never formed a personal attitude toward so much. I had accepted the accepted attitudes, and it had made life seem simple.
