My first post on the DraniKitty alt, and it’s about... Psoriasis. It’s ironic, sometimes I wish my body’s way of attacking itself was more invisible, because then maybe I’d get less people offering me unsolicited advice on how to treat it. Something about it means it’s, apparently, okay to tell me that this treatment or that treatment will work on it. I’ve heard a lot of the range, including “Rub banana peels on it” and “Well this thing I get from a third-world country works for me!” and I have no idea what’s in THAT shit. But I think the most audacious one I heard was “You have a vitamin deficiency” from a lady in the waiting room when I went with my mother to her first appointment with a new doctor. Apparently the explanation of “My body is attacking itself after I got chicken pox as a child” was not enough, and she had the gall to blame my mother for me having a vitamin deficiency since childhood. I’d really like to know what people thinks makes it okay to tell me this shit, what makes it okay to suggest treatments. No, I have NOT tried X or Y, because I don’t WANT to for some of them(Like drugs of unknown origin and quality from a third-world country), because I can’t use them anymore(The 3-5 hour IV drip drug triggers an allergic reaction in me, I value being able to move far more than clear skin; That drug you take by mouth? Handy and convenient and could make my existing depression worse), or because I’m at work, and they’re telling me this shit in the middle of me scanning their 30+ item purchase, there’s a LINE, and I’m focused on doing what I’m there for, not remembering the name of some drug or another kind of treatment. Dear greater public, yes I know I have severe plaque psoriasis, I know it covers a good 50+% of my skin surface, and I’m well aware it both itches and painfully cracks, but I do not want unsolicited advice on how to treat it, especially since I’d rather get treatment from a trained medical professional and I need something that will treat ALL of it, not just what people SEE on my arms and face. Imagine a spot on the human body, it’s there, and I can’t just casually treat it by rubbing banana peels on it, I can’t even put the Psoriasin that I know works on all of it because there ARE places I simply can’t put it. Stop telling me how to treat something I’ve had since I was 5 or 6.
