PSM3 #115, July 2009 - 'Uncharted 2' cover.
I wrote a blog a while back that I never posted, half crying about the demise of Nintendo Power, half not caring because I never read it. So finding out today that PSM3 is also packing it in was a wee bit ironic and somewhat emotional. I used to read PSM2 religiously back in the day, sending in VHS's for the pro dojo (coming second overall yisss self serving brackets) and writing reviews that never got posted; it was the peek of my geekdom and the last time I ever really cared about a magazine.Â
I stopped reading just before they changed to PSM3 because I gave up on Sony after the PSP and there's just something about the PS3 that really upsets my gag reflex. Even still, reading the last magazine today with mostly the same team of old reviewers and contributors I remember from defining a huge part of my childhood, it really highlights the end of an era. As of yet I haven't found a reliable gaming website I visit regularly. Generally I stumble upon news on tumblr, or get my fix via whatever the top google result is. I don't develop sustained relationships with online writers, to me it's just code in the shape of sentences, usually with a post ironic avi that undermines whatever they're writing. I don't print out articles and keep the collections at the bottom of my cupboard, and I certainly don't reread it all when I'm bored, lying in a heap of light, glossy literature.Â
Just feels like on the internet everything's void of substance; it's an equal playing field where everyone's opinion is just as hollow as the next. I'd like to think there's an alternate reality where PSM2 did publish my subpar GCSE reviews, I quickly became the highest paid member (read: saviour) of the team, and together we destroyed the internet. thnx fr th mmrs
In these final 2 parts of our first episode of The Skepsis we read through PSM3's Top 20 Games You Haven't Played, giving our thoughts and opinions on each of the games. There are a couple we have never heard of at all and them some that we were surprised made it to the list.Â
I like free games & Stuff
... but then who doesn't
Last night I managed to score a spot at Namco Bandai's Soul Calibur V hands on pre-launch party (Thank you PSM3 magazine). I was pretty stoked to be going although I did question 'how many machines will there be? like, will I get to play for more than 5 seconds?' in the end I figured free pizza, drinks, a chance to play a game which isn't even out yet, psh it will be cool.Â
Well I got there and was pleasantly surprised - lots of consoles and cold drinks and I got handed a ticket for the lucky door prize as I walked in!Â
So, I played Soul Calibur V to my hearts content (hey, I even got used to the XBox controller - not the retro arcade controller though - that thing is hard to use!!) and I kicked a few random guys butts who actually own XBox consoles!Â
But the best news is yet to come! I was one of 5 lucky people to score the lucky door prize: a goodies pack with T-shirts, and various other bits and pieces and a copy of Soul Calibur V.Â
Sadly, I didn't get Soul Calibur there and then, so I can't wait until it arrives in the mail - I'm totally having a games night!Â
So - what was awesome about the game?
Fun for hard core fans and button mashers alike
(Less fun for button mashers when up against a hard core fan...but isn't that how it's meant to be?)
Awesome graphics
The AI seems to adapt and get harder as you become more of a challenge!
Heaps of moves - no boring same 3 move combination, it's really entertaining - honestly I found myself enthralled watching other matches and making 'phoar', 'bwahahah', 'oooh' and 'HOW DID YOU DO THAT?!?' noises.
And who was my favourite character?
Pyrrha (yeah yeah I know, she's a whinger about fighting - seriously, but she's pretty cool)

God of War IV Rumoured with Co-Op Multiplayer
One of the top UK gaming magazines, PSM3, has outlined in a report that God of War IV is coming...with co-op multiplayer!
The game was listed in the magazine's top PS3 titles of 2012. Whilst there hasn't been an official confirmation from Sony, there have been plenty of rumours regarding the title.
The rumoured plot is said to have Kratos and his brother Deimos escaping the afterlife. Obviously, both characters would be playable, hence the co-op. It seems like introducing some kind of multiplayer into the series would be the logical step forward.Â
If anything more comes of this rumour, we'll be sure to have you informed. Lets hope its true!

PSM3 scans, including two new, never before seen screenshots and a new Todd Howard interview?
Yeah. We got that. Just barely legible at this resolution, but it will do!
These are genuinely awkward moments to watch. I dread to think how it was actually attending them... How about hosting them... Hope you enjoy.
