shit. that wasn’t supposed to happen. daniel had been pissed, but sean hadn’t thought he would react like that. they argued all of the time, after all, more so lately. but never like that. right then, he wasn’t even entirely sure how it had started. perhaps something to do with karen, or the trip to mexico. it was usually one or the other. whatever it had been, it didn’t matter anymore. not just yet, at the very least. the two of them had a bigger issue to worry about.
“daniel.” sean looked up to him, still on his knees from the blow. it didn’t feel smart to try and get back up just yet. it still hurt. “i-- i know. it’s fine. just -- shit.” it had happened so fast, but he knew daniel was telling the truth. he didn’t mean it. not really. “it’s my fault. i shouldn’t have said what i said.” it had been what pushed daniel too far. he had seen it in his eyes, just a second before he had been thrown back against the wall. “just-- just give me a second. i need a second.”
moving his hand down, he gripped the side of his chest, planting his other hand down below him to keep himself steady. sean had felt that energy before, back in the motel, but it had been much different this time. it felt like it was going through him, crushing his chest, winding him. it was still difficult to breathe, and for how much his ribs were hurting, he figured something had to be pretty messed up in there. it had felt like daniel could have ripped him apart if he had wanted to.
breath hitching, breathing in a little too deeply, sean squeezed his eyes shut for a moment, riding through the pain. “shit.” he murmured under his breath, hoping it wasn’t as bad as it felt. they had to keep going. daniel needed him. “okay. okay. yeah, i’m good.” glancing over to his side, he took hold of an overturned table, before looking back to his brother, forcing a smile onto his face. right now he had to be calm, for the both of them. “help me up?”
