The Act of Turning - How to & Why it is incredibly unlikely to be achieved
Within the Vampire community the concept of turning is one that is highly debated. Most people acknowledge that while the concept of turning is somewhat plausible, it is highly improbable to occur. I generally agree with this ideology.
Fairly recently, an individual in one of the communities I am a part of posted one of the possible ways that turning can occur. The original post can be found here.
"Take a willing adult of sound body and mind, who from now on will be referred to as the 'seeker' and sequester them in a location, ideally quite remote or in a basement.
To damage the seeker's energy system in such a way that the damage is permanent, the vampire or vampires must feed deeply on core energies in a controlled manner, several times a day for a number of days. To prevent the seeker from sub-consciously recovering any energy from the environment, the vampire will use a shield construct to keep the seeker in isolation for the duration of the turning. As the seeker shows more distress and exhibits more fatigue, the feeds will become more difficult, to the point there no more energy can be taken, this is the threshold, if the vampire is strong enough or unskilled it is possible to collapse the seeker's energy system but this is not the goal as a collapsed energetic body cannot support a human soul. Once this threshold is reached the vampire will continue to feed in a most calculated way as this is when the seeker's energy system will be irreparably damaged, creating the vamparic need to replenish their vital energy from an external psi source, however it is only the vampire's judgment that determines the degree of damage. Once completed, the seeker is vampire, but a vampire who does not know how to feed, it is up to their companions to teach them or not. "
Unfortunately, the individual who originally posted this did not include -why- it is unlikely for such an act to occur. In the exact same thread, I explain why it is that the concept of "turning" is improbable based on this method:
"What you have described here is in fact a
plausible theoretical way in which turning can be carried out. However, there are several flaws with this general model and several key points of information that you seem to have neglected. First and foremost, in order for this to be successful one must find an individual capable of carrying out such tasks (of which, I will detail later). This is incredibly difficult to do as most people do not have the knowledge or capability to carry out (again, I will explain later). Second, using multiple people in order to carry out such a task could prove to be problematic unless all people present conducting the "turning" process are in tune with each other. Being in tune with each other, would be the key in utilizing multiple persons for this process as the slightest imbalance could prove to be both extremely harmful to the individual being turned as well as result in a non-vampiric state. Individuals capable of conducting this process are extremely rare for the following reasons: 1) Normal individuals replenish prana/chi/qi levels through normal processes such as eating, sleeping, breathing, etc. In order for the turning process to occur, not only would the individual carrying out the "turning" process have to shield themselves but they would also have to simultaneously shield the other individual from naturally recovering any energy. 2) Because environmental factors play a role in the natural recovery of prana/chi/qi, the individual conducting the "turning" process would also have to not only drain the individual that they are turning, but the entire environment as well meanwhile maintaining a constant shield on all involved. 3)It is unsafe to deprive an individual who is undergoing the turning process of basic essentials needed for survival-- specifically water. The human body can go some weeks without food, however, it can only last three days without water. Even if you allow the individual to drink water, you're adding another factor into the equation-- which, as I've mentioned because healthy individuals naturally replenish prana/chi/qi through normal methods, the individual conducting the turning process would also need to set up and maintain several constructs to redirect/divert/drain any energy that is gained through the consumption of water throughout the entire process. 4) There are limits to how much energy an individual can control and take at one time. While every individual may have a different capacity for the amount of energy that they can take/control at one point in time, it is unlikely that one would find an individual capable of such a high rate of energy taking as well as useage in the maintenance of the process as a whole. 5) Due to the overwhelming number of things going on, it is unlikely that any one individual would be able to carry out such processes simultaneously, let alone for prolonged periods of time 6)Last, finding individuals willing to conduct such a procedure is incredibly unlikely as vampirism is like having metaphysical diabetes. Most people would not conduct such a process as they would deem it unnecessary or unethical. (As a side note, diabetes aint fun, yo'.) Furthermore, all you're doing is inducing a state of sympathetic vampirism. Although long term sympathetic vampirism can result in a permanent case of vampirism itself, it is incredibly unlikely that such a process could successfully be performed over a single day, yet alone several days. I would argue that a more accurate measurement of time to conduct such a process would be weeks, possibly months. This would be necessary in order to ensure that the individuals subtle body did not revert back to its normal functioning state over time. While several days may substantially damage an individuals system so that it recouperates more slowly, its possible that the individual could make a full recovery after several months-- which would just mean that all you've accomplished, once again, is sympathetic vampirism. "
