The last image is a hypothetical meeting between one of my aliens (the pseudodont) and a crown. I think that the crowns would interpret the pseudodonts’ exposed teeth as them always grinning. The pseudodonts would probably view the crowns as talking mossy rocks. I think they’d be friends, though. They would play video games together.

Pseudodonts (AKA fish people, triangles) are a race of alien sophonts from the Pseudodont Homeworld (AKA The Ocean Planet). They are easily recognized by their aquatic nature, whitish crystal, blue-green skin and pale yellow “teeth”. They are the first sapient aliens that Humans ran into, with two individuals discovered as prisoners held in an abandoned spacecraft of unknown origin.

Pseudodonts are named so because their “teeth” aren’t actually teeth; they are mobile wedges of a hard bone-like material located at the superior end of the body. A Pseudodont’s actual mouth is located on the dorsal side between their tentacles (“dorsal” here meaning opposite of the eye). The large translucent crystal on their backs are their visual organ. Pseudodonts primarily communicate through vasodilation in their fins. They can hear some things via an organ analogous to a gas bladder, but compared to humans their hearing is very imprecise. Their sense of smell is superior to that of a humans; detecting certain pheromones is as important to Pseudodonts as body language is to Humans. Pseudodont literature mentions a sense of taste as well, but the Humans haven’t yet found out which organ(s) detect that. Pseudodonts have three biological sexes that they say are very obvious to detect. Humans have struggled to come up with a system to accurately detect a Pseudodont’s sex. Most Human xenobiologists agree that it must be marked by pheromones.
