Permission Slips and Bag Lunches || Closed
It'd been almost two weeks since Carl had brought home the permission slip from his teacher, asking for one of his parents to sign the paper that would get him out of a day of school in exchange for a day at the science museum. He wouldn't have been as excited for a history museum, in fact, he would have asked if he could pretend he was sick that day and miss it all if that had been the case. They were all the same - never any new dinosaurs or things to get his hands on -- but a science museum was completely different.
An additional note on the letter from school had been requesting volunteers to go along as chaperones and, with his parents being caught up in previously-made plans, it was only logical that the boy requested to have the next in line go along with him. He'd even promised to make their lunches for them (with his mother's help, of course,) if Shane agreed to go.
Thankfully things had worked out in his favor and he had spent the majority of his morning sitting on the kitchen counter to help make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, stuff chips into baggies and fit all of that into bags with juice boxes and pudding cups.
The bags were stuck into a cooler with blue ice (along with a few extra bottles of water) and he was out the door - catching a ride to school with a friend that was taking their own adult with them as well. Three parents and a teacher should have been enough to handle two classes of eleven year olds, right?
They were all meeting in the lobby to take attendance and make sure everyone was ready for the day out of school, so that was the first place Carl ran to - immediately rushing to the man's side once he spotted him and held up the cooler of their lunches with a proud, excited smile. "I'm ready to go if you are."
