Maybe the reason I tended to go with the version of Psamathe's story where she had some very unwanted intercourse in the shape of a seal is because of how cleanly it parallels Thetis's story, down to the fact the fathers of their children are so closely related
but then again there are pretty key differences, no one, certainly no god, told Aeacus he had to be with Psamathe, unlike how Peleus was explicitly ordered to marry Thetis, and obviously their respective sons could not be more different.
Should I just go with the Hesiod version that claims they were "joined in love through Aphrodite"?
