The vampire stared at the were for a long moment. With everything that had happened and that they had been through, this was certainly not something that Mahdi had ever expected. Yes, they sometimes fought, but it had never been anything that would have led to a moment like this.
However, no matter how much it was hurting him in his chest -- even though his heart no longer beat -- he would not stay where he was not wanted. He loved Duro more than anything except for his brother, but he would not argue when the man so clearly wanted him out of his life. After all, he had promised Duro in the beginning that if he had ever wanted to end their relationship, he would not use anything against him to change his mind.
Mahdi might have been an immortal monster, but he did have honor and kept his word.
âAs you wish,â he said in a formal tone that he had never once used with Duro in the entire time they had known each other.Â
He reached for his bag and started for the door. He paused before opening the door and took in a breath that he didnât need. It was a habit he picked up being around humans so that he fit in a little more when he needed to. He didnât want to look back at Duro, did not want the other man to see how much he had hurt him. Making sure to shield his mind so that his brother would not hear him, he spoke without turning around.
âWill you be telling our brothers why I will no longer be seen around here or shall I?âÂ
Maybe he should go to ground for awhile. Maybe hibernate. It would not be optimal, but it would be better than having to function with this pain for however long it attempted to cripple him. It would also make sure that he honored Duroâs wish to never see him again.
