Nine years ago to the day I watched my boy show a scout what he was made of. This was the first of many trials and not just on the football pitch but the rest as they say is now history. As a parent we look back at some of these memories and find ourselves only focusing on those happy happy moments as they stand out, nothing wrong with that of course. But sitting here i realized that as our children grow and become indepentant, we miss or are less focused/informed on their milestones that proceed these and we never stop to take stock of what makes them the men and women they eventually end up becoming. My point, although long winded is that i am/and always have been proud and never disappointed of any of the decisions my son has made since those nervous day on a grass bare football pitch. Yes some have be trying, some tough to digested but whats important is that they were/are his decisions and not ours and as parents we must guide, teach, educate and not force (especially as they become older) our way/view of the world. What i see now is an individual who , because of history, because of situations continues to fight for what he wants. He is his own man, a man of his values and of a unique strength who always I see leading from the back.
