I’ve gotten a couple messages about if there’s still time to jump in on the Monarch movement.... erm, well, they’re all migrating now so I’d say wait until 2020 to do any rearing and releasing! BUT yes, there are ways you can still help NOW! 1. Plant native, nectaring flowers for pollinators! With the change of seasons, many plants are dying off and butterflies and bees will be getting hungry! You can help during this time of their struggling food supply! 2. PLANT MILKWEED the best time to do this is with plantlets in the spring, and seeds in the fall. Look for the split open pods with the fuzzy floss attached to seeds. Together we can all help, no matter how small the effort might seem. Formerly found in 18 states, the Regal Fritillary butterfly has seen a drastic decline in population due to the loss of 99% of their tall-grass prairie habitat. 

Easily one of the most recognizable and beautiful species in America, the monarch butterfly population is important to the health of countless wildflowers the species pollinates. This is just one example of how proactive conservation can support the health of an overall ecosystem.
