You may think that in Canada there's no such a thing as homeless people wandering around the streets, but unfortunately there is not the reality in here. Our local community members every month or so reaches out these "invisible" people bringing them some snacks, warm and clean socks, a smile, a pair of active ears and hope. Last Saturday we also brought Fiona and as you can see she was certainly an asset to the team. They all loved her and of course, she loved them back. #therapydogintraining #ProjetoFiona #Montreal #Canada #Homeless #ADRA (at Montreal, Quebec)

The healing power of dogs over children with autism and their families
................................................................................................... Who said dogs cannot communicate? In the article “ Understanding our kinship with animals: input for health care professionals interested in the human/animal bond”, the author highlighted that dogs’ strengths in communicating with humans relate to their predisposed ability to inspect our faces for critical information, for reassurance and for guidance. These traits are a definite asset for their interactions as they are keen observers of our reactions.
On today’s menu we have a service dog helping her owner to calm down. Danielle Jacobs, who is on the autism spectrum, shared a deeply personal video showing her service dog, Samson, stopping her from self harm to raise awareness about her experience on the spectrum.
In the clip, Jacobs is seen hitting herself, and she writes below the video "This is what's considered a meltdown." Then, Samson jumps up, using his paws to pull Jacobs' hands down and stop the behavior.
Jacobs posted the video, saying "This is what having aspergers is like. Please no negative comments this really happened and it's not easy to open myself and share what it's like on a daily basis."
The video now has over 900,000 views on YouTube, with largely positive and encouraging comments for Jacobs.
"I have a mild level of Asperger's Syndrome, and I am moved by your bravery for being so open sharing yourself in extreme stress and depression. Very admirable," one commenter wrote.
"It is heart breaking to watch someone go through something like this, but it comforts me to know that you have an incredible companion to help you through it," wrote another.
