Project Management Reflections
In my pursuit to establish a high school audio engineering curriculum, this course has shinned light on some dims areas of the entertainment business that would have gone overlooked. One of the assignments allowed me to break down my direct expenses for the audio engineering program and allowed me to factor in some cost I never considered. It also allowed me to gain a greater scope of the time it would take to implement such a program. You can apply these strategies to a business plan or a proposal presentation being delivered to a panel of decision makers.
A major part of the course surrounded team building and working with other people. A team is more than critical to the success of a project and a successful carrier in the music industry. The character studies remind me of a book written by Robert Greene from my earlier classes entitled “The 48 Laws of Power”. They allow you to analyze individuals and make an educated assumption about the type of person they are and where they would fit in your organization. You can apply what I’ve learned to your organizational structure and your hiring process as well. The DiSC personality test can be a good tool to use during the hiring application process. It can give you an initial look into an applicant’s character before an interview and allow you formulate your face-to-face questions in a manner to measure the honesty of the applicant’s responses.
I also learned a lot about communication and conflict resolution amongst project teams. As a team leader, you have the option of using informal methods to resolve conflicts amongst team members without getting higher authorities involved. You can apply these mythologies to any sort of conflict, whether it be professional or even a personal relationship. The idea is to reach down to an emotional level and resolve conflict from the bottom up.
