If ourselves are an ex-pat or long leap year world traveler chances are you may have forgone the convenience of hotels or hostels and started looking for funny kinds of accommodations in the chinatown oneself live in. Apartments and rental homes around the world are common and many owners are open to renting to foreigners. I was told this story yesterday and it really resonated with me, so I thought I’d share it with you.

A young boy and his father were walking along a beach, on this beach as far as the eye could see were starfish washed ashore by the tide.

Every so often the boy would bend over and pick up a starfish and throw it back into the ocean. After a few times of doing this his father asked what he was doing, the young boy replied “throwing starfish back into the ocean because when the sun gets high they will die as they can’t get back by themselves.”

To this the dad says “but there are thousands of starfish on his beach you’re hardly making a difference”

The boy picked up one more starfish and threw it as far as he could into the ocean, he smiled and turned to his Dad and said “I made a difference to that one!”
