Something worthy today. Although indirectly and no matter how little you think you can give, you just know that out there, 50 children won't pass this day with their stomach empty. #projectpearls

Lasallian Volunteers in Action...
Service Learning Activity (SLA) is one of the highlight programs for our Business Ethics and CSR Class which aims to inculcate the values that we have learned by adopting a community. Our class is divided into three groups. Each group is tasked to create a specific program for the community that would address their concerns and needs. The program should be sustainable and life-changing experience for the families and for us.
We named our group, Lasallian Volunteers. We decided to tie-up with Project PEARLS (Peace, Education, Aspiration, Respect, Love, Smiles) through the help of BPI Foundation which focuses our outreach program in Tondo Manila particularly Helping Land. Every Sunday, Project PEARLS does a feeding program and teaching session for 200 kids. This has been the story for the past 6 years. As a group, we wanted to revise the program in such a way that it is more interactive and fun-filled.
During our planning stage, we divided the group into different sub-groups for task delegations and subjects to be taught which became very effective. We have interactive learning activities for GMRC, Math, Science and History. For GMRC, the activity will be in a form of pass the word which is all about the Fillipino values such as Matulungin, Magalang, Masipag atbp. For Math, we prepared a small problem solving which will test their ability to add, subtract, divide and multiply. We will do in a story-telling manner. For Science, we composed a song about the planets in the solar system. Lastly, for History, we taught them about the different historical symbol of our country. We don’t want the traditional way of teaching since it becomes boring towards the end of the activity.
To make it more fun and exciting, we prepared prizes and gifts for the kids. We used our linkages to get possible sponsors and we did a successful job in doing so. We got donations from anonymous client 300 pairs of slippers and from Solane Company 200 gift packs. For the activities per subject, we bought candies and chocolates as prizes for the winners.
Our main goal is to teach the kids the value of learning, education and having dreams in life which anchor on the activities. We want them to realize that whatever their situation in life, they should not lose hope and stop dreaming because we believe that through our dreams we learn to aim high. With the present situation of the kids, it is important that we share the light and hope to them. We must serve as role models to the younger generation.
We are looking forward to inspire them on November 27, 2016.
