I’m at work so can’t really write anything proper about this but I am mega into the fact Formula E are just going in hard on the environment.
It’s not a cool statement to make, in the petrolhead world of motorsport. It’s the sort of thing that could make problems for them, sponsor-wise. It’s not something that’s a cost-free piece of PR; this is something they’ve consciously decided to do.
And do it with PR, of course - that’s how things work, there’s no point doing it if they’re not hoping they can convince some people with it. But it is extremely exciting to see the category going BIG on the fact it’s the future of innovation in motorsport terms and why. This doesn’t flinch or stutter - it goes straight for the fact the ice caps are melting and hydrocarbon-burning combustion engines are a major reason why.
Jaguar picked this up in their own press conference and it’s come up a few times but #ProjectIce is a whole, conscious campaign organised around it. It’s brave and fucking cool and everything I want to be seeing from motorsport.
I feel sorry for Di Grassi’s buttocks, which is something I didn’t think I’d ever say. Bumpy.
