@projecteightysix liked this for a starter. // —- How Far I’ll Go ;; Auli'i Cravalho
“ Every path I make, every road leads back to the place I know where I cannot go... ” Of course, even if she says she wants to be alone ---- that she doesn’t want to be around people, that wasn’t true. She didn’t want that, it was just the way she felt things had to be right now. There were too many lives taken by her own hands that weighed down upon her shoulders. Red stained her hands that she couldn’t wash away and no matter how much she tried, it didn’t go, it made her feel sick. The guilt that was bubbling away and festering inside. Killing, she couldn’t keep doing it... And if she wanted to be with those she considered family, those she cared about, would do anything for... Killing is exactly what she’d have to do. And if she did kill, she would continue down the path of destroying herself. So she had to be alone. But it didn’t seem so easy. She kept finding herself being pulled right back there, whether it was something going wrong, something she knew she had to save them from ---- Terminus. Or them coming looking for her. “ Where I long to be... ”

❛ p-please i don’t... i don’t have anything for you. ❜ why did she choose to stay behind and watch the camp. sure, they left her with some weapons but she didn’t know how to use them. they hadn’t trained her properly yet on how to use guns. she had her knife, but you don’t bring a knife to a gun fight.

❛ have you heard of the saviors ?? ❜ there is guilt inside her, knowing what she does now. she has to make it right somehow. she has to go back to her people, she has to help them. but she doesn’t know if she can do it alone.

He wonders what it can possibly say about someone like him that he’s shaking as he’s doing this. Really, it had been Roberta’s idea, hadn’t it? Or, rather, her suggestion. And really, it’s nothing special. Nothing he made or crafted -- rather, something he found. Trinkets like this are so rare -- sentimentality had died right along with the rest of the world. Anything not directly useful was to be made into parts, eaten, or tossed all together.
But it had been a strange find. A gold-plated necklace ( dirty, slightly rusted, and chipped as it is ) with the year 1986 dangling in a pendant off the chain. Murphy took time to hack off the 19 off the pendant with the blade of Roberta’s knife, brow furrowed in concentration. It wasn’t...pretty when it was done. But, eventually, his work was complete: it said 86.
She didn’t have to wear it. But Roberta had said something about the small gesture affirming her as a person. About recognizing her for someone beyond just a clone. Because Murphy does, doesn’t he? God, of course he does -- but...maybe she just doesn’t know that.
So, Murphy approaches her awkwardly, his long-dead heart pounding in his chest. It’s so stupid, really -- so why is he so nervous?
“Hey,” he murmurs. He takes her wrist in his hand, turning it upwards to place the crude pendant into her palm.
“Here. I, um -- it’s for you.”

“You’re -- you’re okay.”
How long had they been separated for? It had been days at least -- maybe a week. Maybe longer. Murphy had lost track of time long since the group had gotten separated. Of course she had been okay. There is little that can hurt her ( and Murphy knows the biggest threat to her could only ever be herself ), and he knows he has no need to worry like he does. But it doesn’t stop him from launching himself at her when he catches sight of her at the edge of the camp, throwing his arms around her neck with a force that could topple any typical human being, knowing that she would be just fine.
“Dammit, Eighty-six,” he whispers against her neck, his own voice broken and frustrated and relieved all the same. “I missed you. I missed you.”

’ blair witch? i’m sorry i don’t get the reference. ’ eighty six’s eyebrows rose with confusion but she moves to draw her gun from over her shoulder. he’s right, she can hear all the noise from every side. ’ the left side has less noise coming from it through. ’
as her brows rose , eric’s followed right along not fully able to comprehend that someone wouldn’t understand a blair witch reference , of all things . ❝ wh-? okay , never mind . if left seems like the way to go , i vote for going right walking into a shit-show willingly is better than being surprised by one , right ? ❞
