Memento Evaluation
Memento was the third project of the second year. In this project we had to create something that related to memories. As I am doing concept art I decided to design a character. I ended up designing a knight with memory loss and a damaged suit of armour, the cuts and burns on the armour being the only thing that can show the knights past. for this project, I decided to draw using a graphics tablet in photoshop as my previous work this year has mostly been analogue. While working like this was slower, it did mean I could correct mistakes easier. And allowed me to try using a cleaner art style. For the most part, this project was based on work from Makoto Sato (Dark Souls) and his ‘Fallen Knight’ design from the third game. Overall I enjoyed using a different medium from the usual and found the idea behind the project to be quite interesting especially in the context of creating a concept.
Fashion Evaluation.
During the fashion rotation, I worked in a group to create a film of the fashion students working. During this project I worked with Connor Seales. He was the director for the video and i did the recording. Although i don’t think the film came out too well, there are a few photos I took that I think looked good. We also used templates of people to design costumes. While designing these costumes we had a set of criteria, for example the first costume had to be made of specific materials (metal plates, glass and bolts) and the second had to be made in the same style as Venetian blinds. I think that the costumes I designed came out well however I havent fully coloured one and the other has no colour at all yet.
out of the projects we did, I think that I enjoyed the costume design a lot more then the film project as the film didn’t really interest me that much and I didn’t learn that much from it. The template costume design however was much more interesting and allowed me to learn a bit more about drawing people. I also think that the costume design project is a lot more relevant to what I want to go on and do after this course. over all though I enjoyed the rotation a lot more then I Thought I would.

Reading Response - Project 3: Identity
Reading this article helped me identify the different ways the topic of identity can be explored through art. Prior to reading this selection, my thoughts for this project were immediately running to the typical displays of identity in the world of art: self-portrait or portrait. Though these are avenues I might still consider using, it was helpful to have my mind opened a little further to different avenues.
The most interesting way identity can be explored as described in the text, to me, was the idea that identity is constructed and that identity is not a fixed thing. Something that I have really struggled with as an individual is the concept of identity, what defines someone’s identity and what affects it. Given that I am a victim of multiple forms of abuse and have specifically been sexually assaulted, that greatly affected how I view my own identity as a person. I have always believe that we are products of our circumstances, and that from those circumstances, you grow, change, and redefine your identity. The fact that this was something that was touched on in the text as being from a “network of interdependent forces that define roles, reward status, govern behavior, and order power relationships,” is an avenue for this project I would not have thought about on my own to explore. This makes me think about how I can show what I could have turned out as had I not had the circumstances I grew up in, if I were not in the circumstances I am now.
This also makes me think about how I can explore identity on a wider scope. Rather than make this project about my personal identity, I have the ability to explore the identity of my heritage, the identity associated with the society I live in, or even the places I live, work, or play. I think researching the artists mentioned in this selection will help me get some ideas as to what I can do with this project.
