BlackBerry says Project Ion consists of three parts: a secure public information platform running its QNX software, facilitating an IoT ecosystem, and membership in the Industrial Internet Consortium. The first and third part of this project may be the most important.

Project Ion includes partnerships with market leaders, an ecosystem to foster innovation and a cloud-based product from QNX Software Systems designed to enable greater levels of simplicity, scalability, and security in IoT solutions.
Today the Application Developers Alliance launched a Working Group to champion data driven innovation. The Data, Analytics, and Security Working Group will develop best practices for transparent and secure collection, analysis, storage, sharing, and use of consumer data. The Group will also help shape global public policies that are balanced and protect innovative data use.
…“Developers are using data to build products that make us smarter, healthier, and more efficient, but with these innovations comes the need to ensure data collection is transparent and secure,” said Jon Potter, President of the Application Developers Alliance.

Ericsson will serve as the Group’s chair. Initial members include Apollo Matrix, appFigures, Applico, AppsFlyer, AT&T, Banjo, Factual, Flurry, Google, Holland & Knight, Intel, mParticle, New Relic, Sprint, Syniverse Technologies, and Yahoo.
